Russia - Why keep units in the Rear Areas?

Post by EdwinP »

A quick question, on the AAR maps I see the Russian player keeping units in the rear provinces/areas. Why not just place them on the front lines and make the front lines stronger? Its not as if the Axis could make a seaborne invasion, aka the surprise invasion of Southern Italy.

What's rear area for you?

If that's the area two "steps" from Germans bear in mind these areas can be subjected to airborne invasion (airborne can, under some circumstances, depending on a carrying heavy air unit, make 2 "hexes").

Also, Panzer units have movement rate of 2 and can attack an area that is two "steps" from the front.

Possible answer may be also that the screenshot is taken at the beginning of SU turn, before the player moved his units from Ural production centers to the front [:D]

Finally, another possibility is that a SU player run out of supply points *before* he could have moved his units from Ural production centers to the front... [:@]
