I am getting the impression that the AI is a little more aggressive than the historic Japanese (not a critiscism of the AI, just an observation). The AI Japanese seem ahead of the historic schedule in bases captured, but are paying for it with an awful lot of sunken transports.

Of course, this could be do to the way I am playing (running for my life and shooting at AKs over my shoulder as I run <G>).

By 1/16/42 (AI+Hard, Scen 15) there are 38 sunken IJN ships that I can see in the Ships Sunk list. Which means there are at least a few more and there are _lots_ that are crippled and limping home. Most of the sunk ships are APs. Much of the damage has been done by the DEI air units. The Japanese tend to get stuck taking some base, reinforce and lose ships to A/C from nearby DEI bases.

Anyone know about how many AP/AK the IJN did lose in the first 1 and first 2 months?

Dang guys,

Against the AI I have captured Singapore in less than a week on Hard. The longest was 7 days exactly.
Have not played as the allies. Figure if I can handle the IJ, the allies with less of a burden will be a breeze.
Take the Division, all eng reg, all art, and HQ stationed in Chonga and pound Singapore to death. You will take
casualties, but you need that base!!! It is along way back to Japan for repairs. Leave 1 division in Chonga though,
the AI can be sneaky sometimes and attack you there. Rare, but it happened to me. Takes longer to clean up the
minefield than taking the base I have found.

Every man woman and child capable of holding arms is getting on a ship in my singapore. I hope to lose < 10000 people when all is said and done. The no PP required units are perfect for going places. like Java. Holding Java out long term is going to be so much worse than holding Singapore even 2 months longer. I'm ditching everything, Borneo, Sumatra, to stock Java. Hopefully I can hold out for a while. All rescued airplanes from PI, NEI, are going there, most of SW pacific, all of malaysia (except for the HQ, which went to Andaman Island.) And every British, Dutch, Australian and New Zealand ship is going to Java. (and my first 3 carriers, whenever I stop running away.)

Looks like Singapore will fall around the 25th.

My bad, I confused Singapore with Hong Kong for some reason. Must be the lack of sleep and malnutrtion.

ORIGINAL: Nikademus

depends on both players.

IIRC, Raverdale lost his Singapore real early in a previous test because he made the mistake of attempting a counter-attack as the defender which failed. Under the new LCU rules, if the defender LCU"s launch an attack, successful or not, they lose the benefits of their FORT level for a full turn.

Well his attack failed disrupting his boys and negating his forts. Next turn Luskan was able to mop up. ouch.

Me of course... I took Singapore in my last game around early/mid Feb after a careful conservative approach designed to minimize casualties.

Humm Missed this, no wonder why some places fell easy..

However does it apply to Bombardments?

I'm holding naga still after 1/20/42, I held Clark till 1/18/42, Both have been doing Bombardment attacks..
Is it to get max fort you just sit and hunker down?
Noise? What Noise? It's sooooo quiet and Peaceful!

I can relate to the lack of sleep but man, you need to eat. [:-]

I lost Singapore the base 1/24/42. There are still a relatively large number of ground units holding, but their days are numbered. The only units moved out were some air units that were getting pasted.

The PI still have the Clark-Batan-Manila triangle holding strong, although supplies are starting to run low. The AI had marched 3 infantry and 2 armored units to Clark which threw them back which inflicted heavy casualties on the Japanese. 16th Division made a naval landing at Manila but its AP/AK's were chewed up by the coastal guns. The AI also moved in 3 artillery units in support.

In fact at least 6 AP's have been sunk in Manila harbor and another 3 or 4 in Batan. This is in addition to several PC, PG, DD, MsW and ML units. The SS Skipjack has been having a field day as well having torpedoes another 3 or 4 transports.

I can forsee the PI holding well into February assuming no new Japanese reinforcements. The only threat is the dwindling supply level.

Against the AI on historical level, Singapore fell mid-January, but I managed to evacuate everything but the fortress unit to Palembang and then via Oosthaven to either Broome or Colombo resp. Calcutta. What bothers me is that I cannot hold Bataan past mid-february [:(]
