Dont worry guys...this baby (ASL) is in good hands. Rejoice instead.

5-8 YEARS!!
Do you realise where I expect computers to be in 8 years hehe.
I expect my computer to be voice command interactive input based.
In 8 years I expect everything on the market to look like stupid junk (much as my 386 is today not even good enough to type letters to granny on

I just came from the Paradox forums. Oh boy! You should see the volume of posts on this there. But if its any comfort, there are a lot of voices there "advising" [:'(] Paradox to remain faithful to the original boardgame.
I think 5 to 8 years is a bit long, but we certainly aren't going to see it in the stores next week. [:D]

This game does not have a learning curve. It has a learning cliff.

More like two to three years, I think. HOI 2 is the only PE game currently in development of which I'm aware, and although there have been many, many calls for a Victoria 2 or an EU 3, nothing has been said other than EU 3 should not be expected before 2008 or so.

"I just came from the Paradox forums. Oh boy! You should see the volume of posts on this there."
Is there more than one Paradox forum?
I was just there, am now, and interestingly enough, apart from an announcement, I can't find ANY threads discussing this matter.
Did find one thread in announcements though with this as lead paragraph.
"Recognizing the strong worldwide awareness of the Diplomacy® and Squad Leader® brands, Paradox Entertainment AB today announced that it has licensed the worldwide rights from Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR) and Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS) to develop and publish new PC games based on the successful Avalon Hill board and video games. The Avalon Hill line of games is managed by Hasbro’s subsidiary, Wizards of the Coast."
Rather annoying how they make it seem like Wizards actually matters, considering everyone that gives a hoot about ASL, knows Wizards has nothing to do with it, it's controlled by Multi Man Publishing.
I am of course referring to the board game, the only ASL that counts to anyone that will give a hoot about a computer version.
"But if its any comfort, there are a lot of voices there "advising" Paradox to remain faithful to the original boardgame."
Where were these comments made there? Can't seem to find any at least. And if they want this game made faithful, they better be working hand in hand with MMP, or you can forget the game looking like the board game at all.
If I hear Wizards is involved, I won't be able to stop laughing for days.

The Off Topic forum, where the posts were made, is closed to non-registered folk. I think several spam attacks and trolls were to blame for that.
The WotC blurb is just standard press release stuff. If you look at the press release for Neverwinter Nights 2 over at Obsidian Entertainment (Obsidian is pretty much the former Black Isle team), they have a blurb for Hasbro, and that's there almost solely due to the fact that Atari is somehow involved and owns Hasbro.

Interesting. I love the 'Pausable, Real-Time' aspect of Paradox's games, but can it be called "Squad Leader" if it's not turn based?
Identical post sent to Matrix and Paradox boards.

Thought a casual visitor might be missing something over there.
But.
"due to the fact that Atari is somehow involved and owns Hasbro."
I highly doubt it is Atari owning Hasbro, but likely Hasbro owning Atari.
Well I know this much, Hasbro sold most of the "electronic" rights to a lot of game stuff, and doesn't appear to have the same level of control over who does what with computerised wargames of a name they might retain control over in board game formats.
That matter came up in the matter of computerising Up Front, a pet project of one of our other members here.

The 'original' Squad Leader game(s) was titled Project X at 360 Pacific waaay back when. After all the fallout of the company going away, etc; it basically split into two different games. One game was even titled Beyond Squad Leader for a time........that game eventually became Close Combat and the subsequent series. The other game went a different direction and eventually became Combat Mission.

I know most of the people on this board didn't like the first opus, but there is a fair interview of Johan Andersson about HOI2 on the Wargamer: http://www.wargamer.com/articles/hearts ... interview/ [:)]
