Milo I think I found a physics error

Post by DamoclesX »

Okay, this is what I did

I took a stormhack and put it into full burn, then I started translating left and while doing that I slowly yawned left, basically you go in a very large circle on full burn

doing this for some reason I got the ship up over the 6k mark for speed
in a flat out run you cant even get close to that if you burn all your fuel

it also happens to the b5 fighters, but it a lot more apparent, with the starfury you just go full burn, full translat and crank the ship into a sharp circle, you can easyly get up there fast

it could be because they have stronger thrusters.

you know its working when you start seeing the speed jump up rather fast, with your stock ships you have to only turn a little bit or it wont work. with the b5 ships is a lot more obviouse

I got the same 6k slingshot several times before, each time for me though it's when I accidently flip the FLCS to manual, or the systems get blown up and it won't go into auto.
As well as being in the middle of frantic evasive action, in other words I don't recall if there was a specific yaw/roll/translation that produced it.

I assumed it was part of having your FLCS computer shot up, an uncontrolled burn so to speak. Much like how many of todays comercial trucks have top speed governers to prevent overspeeding.

Now that I think of it, I believe I've only seen it in a Stormhawk.

well

it can be reproduced with specific motion

and unlike a govener, you should not be able to reach that speed, period, if you cant do it in a dead run at full burn then there is no way you can reach it going in circles

its something to do with the game not checking the vlimit under those conditions.

Perhapos the flight computer is adding all three vector speeds together? The forward, yaw, and roll speed? Na, still 6k... thats one way to hual tail out of the rock and a har dplace problem.

well I just did it on the def I sent you, the thruster power is nearly 0 all I did was goto full power and turn in a circle, I got out at 10k and proceeded to go in a straight line at that speed, in a normal straight line that ship can barly break over 1.3k
