Vossler's Gambit heads-up

Post by Sleeping_Dragon »

The Vossler's Gambit campaign is meant to be a real test of the players skills; it's NOT for the feint-of-heart. That said, it's also not intended to be 'stupidly' difficult. All the missions are reliably beatable with very good play. (I hope)

All missions in this campaign must be won in order to advance; in case of defeat squad data will not be saved (your squad and jocks will be in the same condition as when they started the mission). As many of these maps are difficult, feel free to eject/lose and to try agian with no ill effects.

Yeah, that campaign is freaking hard! I lost twice already. Both times I almost had it handled... man. I need to fine tune the balance of titan placement, I think... I was using my champion squad, too. Did you make that campaign?

Yea, For good or ill I'll claim responsibility for Vossler's Gambit.[:)]

The rank of your squad don't make a big difference as long as your Ace or better, a lot of the opponents (but not all) will adjust to compensate for your level. Best advise I can give is to think hard about EVERYTHING you do, hap-hazzard moves will ruin your day. Playing a little on the 'conservative' side can help and definately don't be shy to switch/modifiy titans based on the situation if you run into trouble the 1st go-round or from something that's mentioned in the mission briefings (always a good thing to read the briefing BEFORE actually starting a mission, hit the briefing button before you hit start and if you see something in the briefing back out and make changes). And under all circumstances.. use every dirty trick in the book

If your still on the 1st mission, it can be a little rougher then some of the others but it gives an introduction into what this campaign was designed for... a tough challange. Every mission is rated either hard or very hard and the 1st one is very hard. No spoon-feeding on the 1st mission to sucker you in[;)]

I realize this may not be everyone's cup of tea and that was the reason for the original post. No need to waste a player's time if they know they wouldn't like this type of fight. If you can beat this campaign, my hat will be off to you and you will rank on my list of TOS single-players extrodinaire.... for what little that's worth[:D]

If you really get stuck hard let me know and I'll give tips as needed.

Have fun!

I really like the campaign. Lost a good jock on the third map and decided to do some skirmishes to get a new jock to ace. Lost another jock here. It seems I should stop playing against 150% opposition.

Just beaten the first map. Damn, that was something. I sold all my previous titans, made a new assault design for my leader, bought new ones just for the first map. I planned better since I know what surprises were in store.

The first attempt, I was using a squad formation that's a leftover from the Metaborator campaign, which was a LR/MR heavy squad, and not very well suited for CC. The second attempt, i sold and bought over new titans again this time with CC concentrated squads. This didn't work well, either. On the third attempt, I tried to mix in a balanced squad. I had to design a new Assault for my Leader, funny how the AI also used one of it.... I'll post it later. I guess balance is the key, and a bit of luck... I was actually having a bad game on the third attempt around gametime 500, but I loaded from a save around 380 game seconds, and made a few changes in tactics and finally won it.

3 different 'balanced' squads are what I playtested the campaign with and are the most capable of adjusting to unexpected situtions (like the first time you play a given mission). Probably a good idea at least for the 1st attempts on different maps.

I think the next two maps are only at hard level so you may have a little easier time with those, but only a little[;)] As a small consolation, when you lose a map, you get to see the 'I lost' text and this can actually flesh out some portions of the storyline that get 'down-played' if you only get the Victory text all the way through.

BTW.. if you don't mind, let me know how things go if you play further into the campaign.
