Throttle and Alt key stop working

Post by HowardWi »

Sometimes my throttle starts acting weird in 4.0.2.

I have a Logitech Freedom 2.4 joystick. It has a throttle lever on it. When the problem starts I cannot set the speed to 0. If I move the throttle lever to the 0 position the throttle display goes to about 70%. Full throttle is still full throttle. The minimum I can get my speed down to is about 75 m/s when the throttle is set to about one quarter on the joystick. So 0 on the joystick is about 70% throttle and as I move the throttle lever to the one quarter position my speed slows, then as I keep moving the lever, the throttle increases to maximum.

When this happens my alt key also stops working. It seems to act like alt-A when I just press the alt. So asking for landing instructions with alt-I is impossible and getting my speed down for landing also is hard.

Also, A and Z, the keyboard throttle commands also are ignored.

I can restart the program and it is fine until it starts again. I think this happens sometimes after I take any hit, but I'm not sure. But it is not just for that mission or I would say my controls have been damaged by the hit. If I do land safely and start another mission, my controls are still messed up in the new ship.

I got it working. Since I only use the joystick for this game, somehow Starshatter must have caused the stick to get out of calibration.

The way I was able to fix it since I don't see a way to calibrate the thorrle was to disable the throttle, then using the "z" key set the game throttle to zero. Set the stick throttle to zero and re-enable the throttle.

Now everything seems to be fine. I will see if this happens again.

Howard,

Please see if disabling mouse steering in the Control page of the Options screen has any effect on this issue.

Thanks,

It does still happen and I can keep correcting it.

I will try your suggestion.

Thanks.

I tried disabling the mouse and it still happened in the very next mission, though I'm not sure when.

Next time I go into combat I will keep trying setting the throttle to max then 0 to see when it goes out. My feeling is that it happens after I get shot. But when ever it does stop working I can fix it by going through the sequence I mentioned using <esc> to set controls.

I figured out the throttle problem. It is both weird and interesting.

Weird because I don't know how it happened. Interesting because it explains why other keystrokes stopped working.

I have a logitech 2.4 Freedom Joystick and like many joysticks, you can program the keys. With this one you can record keystrokes and then use the button to play them back.

I had one of my buttons programed to Alt-A "attack my target" and I noticed the problem started again when I pressed that key.

So I exited Starshatter and checked. The recorded keystokes were: "Alt Press", "A Press", "Release", "Alt Release". Wierd that it said "Release" and not "A Release". So I rerecorded it and this time it did say "A Release" and I have not had any more problems.

I guess Starshatter thought I never "released" the "A" key and that is why the throttle and other keystrokes were messed up, it thought I was still holding the "A". Boy I glad that is passed.
