Pros and cons between scenairo mods

Post by Buck Beach »

Can anybody or everybody here give me some pros and con between the Lemurs and Tanjman mods? I like some of the concepts in Lemur's (eg basis of giving Oil to Perth, reduced bases sizes, and lower AK capacities) which seem reasonable but also like the graphics considerations of Tanjman's (albeit that aspect is less imporatance than accuracy or logical applacations). I like both of these guys work and both appear to really know their stuff (this coming from one not so educated in the subject). So help me out here in deciding which to start using before I start the grand campaign game again (those first two or three turns are really buggers). Is there a list out there that I can do a side by side comparison?

Mix and match. There's no reason you can't use the graphics from one nad the data files from the other if you like.

Buck Beach,

I think you have me confused with Tankerace who has done a scenario mod and had it posted, while I still working one, when I find the time.

Play Lemurs's mod. it is now the only Grand Campaign I will play due to the friendlier upgrade paths that will reward the IJN player and give him at least a fighting chance.

Just have to get used to seeing different names on my darn planes.[X(] Other than that, I LOVE it.

But he did change some other things he failed to note in the new version.[:-] Caught me by surprise they did.

What did i forget to document? If you tell me i will upgrade my readme. I am the worst documenter in the world!

I think i forgot to mention that i moved resources around. Their are now a few resources on Hainan & Mindanao. Also more oil on Sumatra less on Borneo.

My figures show Sumatra produced 38,500,000 barrels per year in 1940 while the Indonesian total was 65,000,000 barrels.

The Japanese only need for both civilian & military economies 36,000,000 barrels per year. They never had more than 28,000,000 barrels or so in the war.

Also Sapporo/Sakhalin produced 1,000,000 barrels of oil, Manchuria produced 1,000,000 barrels, The peninsula around Tsingtao produced 300,000 barrels and Taiwan was producing 200,000 barrels. In '41 synthetic production was around 1,800,000 barrels and by '44 was around 2,700,000 barrels.

In your scenarion the island Narau has 10 resources. You changed the Val sqdrn in south Japan to a biplane (whatever the dive bomber before the Val) now you have to upgrade it to Vals. No biggie, just caught me off guard. Had to change my normal start.

Love the DE's though. Most of the changes I have noticed so far are trivial. Just figured I would nit pick a little. None of these items warrant a restart of my PBEM game though.

The C5M I think in China (the big one up north with about 27 a/c) upgrades to Sonias. Like that though. That is just the items I have noticed so far.

Oh, and you increased some of the starting supply levels of Palau, and I think 1 or 2 others. Did not notice that before forming up a few supply TF's on turn 1.

This is now my only "official" PBEM scenario.

Yea, the D1a's are historically active in two units at war start. Is the B4y the torp bomber on the Hosho in that build? That is what they should have but 2by3 did not put in. But, on the other hand, Hosho's air groups should probably not be in the game anyway as they are an advanced training unit. That is how i use them anyway; a pool for carrier replacements.

Nauru & Oceans phosphates were an important part of Japanese agriculture and probably should be more than 10 resources. I do not want to upset game balance though.

There are several Japanese bases with zero supply that i added some supply to and Palau is listed in my sources as being built up logistically "to a greater level than Truk".

The C5m in China is not my change but the Ki-36 does now upgrade to the Ki-51 as that is historical.

All torpedo planes are Kates in the scenario's. Both yours and 2by3. Most of the items I noticed, was between your versions.
I was playing your first version, so did not think to check around the second version before jumping into a PBEM with it.

Teach me. The items I mentioned were the ones that leaped out at me and made me say "WTH, I do not remember that".

Other than that no complaints so far though I expect my opponent to start soon when most of my Nates are upgraded to Oscar Ib's.
Of course it is only 9 Dec and I am cranking out 114 A6M2's a month with about 40 more to go till they are all repaired. I plan to have all Claudes upgraded by end of Jan 42. Then he really will be in for a surprise.[:D]

Noticed something else last night, did you bump the pilot pool any? It is larger in the scenario than stock. Not that I mind.[:D]

Yea, i bumped it by 50 pilots since the Japanese even if they set 'no replace' will lose the entire stock of pilots when they are sent to units with damaged aircraft.
I realize Japan did not have a ton of pilots, but they had pushed up their training before the war and were able to replace Pearl Harbor losses without a drop in skill.
The first drop did not really seem to hit till October '42.

2ACR,

Thanks for the nice words... my scenario is developing quite a following. I am being swamped by emails for it and to pbem.

You deserve those words. Your scenario at least gives the IJ player a fighting chance mid to Late war.

Another item discovered: The IJA paratroopers seem to no longer have those un airliftable
AT guns. Thank You Sir. That has always been a pain in the butt for me. Trying to reunite the forces together when you drop them inland away from a port was a pain.

Of course having the AT guns stuck in Saigon maybe, always kept part of the unit around for rebuilding purposes if the drop goes bad and they get slaughtered.

I checked the OOB of the Japanese parachute 'Division' and they did not have any organic AT guns.

Yes, the Japanese parachutists only had mortars and machine guns as heavy weapons. No real artillery.

There were no Japanese gliders, like the British Horsa, and this was way before transports were big or sophisticated enough to drop heavy equipment on pallets, so the AT guns make no sense.

Heh, since people are so "split", how about this. If you want Lemurs, bundle my graphics in with your scenario. 'tis fine by me, just slap my name somewhere in the readme, that's all I ask [:)]
