Editor Question

Post by talon »

When I set the cost off units in the edtor they are not used later when I load the scenario to play it . This was the problem which led in my new scenario "bride at hammermühle" to the fact that the players were not able to win . I´ve seen that in the James Ryan scenario the cost are changed for units like Ryan . Why does this not work in my scenarion then ?

Surely Wild Bill will reply far better than me Image but as far as i know, OOB changes do not always affect scens because once units have been deployed, they can be hardcoded into the scenario files and not read anymore from the OOB... I say can because usually if you change the OOB set, the scenarios may change or not be compatible. What is sure is that once you change something on a particular unit, its stats are saved in the scenario file. So i guess you'll have to rebuy/redeploy the units for your scen, or edit them manually. Maybe Fred's editor can help you ?

I found the first time that I tried to use the editor that the actual OB file was read only and my "saves" were not in fact saved. I right clicked on the file to get its properties then unchecked the read only box.

Could this be your problem?

Well I don´t know Larry . When I change weapons off units or the number off men with the editor these changes are aloso in the game but when I change the costs off units there the game doesn´t use these costs . Even the editor off Fred shows the new costs but the game itself doesn´t use them . So I don´t know what to do .

Note that you can use the SP3 "VP multiplier" to globally change the cost of the units of one or both sides from 10% to 2550% It is the V+ key in the editor. If you want the victory hexes worth a TON compared to units, set then to 250 each and set the unit VP value to 1 (10% of normal). Use other combinations to weight each side relative to each other and the objectives!

Don't know if WB will fess up to how he did it with Ryan :-)

You've already got it, Paul Image

Actually in SP3 you could not change values for units. The only SP game I remember in which you could was the original. I don't think you can in SP2 either.

You can change them in the editor, but when you save, the game puts back the original values.

This could be changed. I hope it will be.
It would be nice to make a scenario where the value of the units is such that objectives are not as important as the units.

This would be a great additional tool for the scenario designer to recreate a lot of battles that cannot be done now where objectives are the primary source of points, followed by unit points (survivors vs losses).
