A thing missing from the overall realism of Starshatter is markings of any kind on vessels. So, I took a couple of screenshots and came up with this stuff. Fighters have the "tail code" of the first two letters of the name of the carrier (ie AR for Archon), the wing and squadron, a random craft code, and the Terellian logo painted on the side and on the upper left and lower right wings. The starships have the name, designation, and TA logo painted on the side. Enjoy!

I wanna live in a deep dark hole

Opening that door would be a great idea: a win-win scenario, to be exact.
Milo as an indie developer has limited resources, and he has chosen to focus those resources on the important parts of the program. The eye candy is respectable, but it wasn't intended to be ground breaking. Likewise, a lack of voice comms, while not a showstopper by any stretch, is still on the "nice to have" list.
Great software has always received a boost from the motivated members of the community. Just look at Falcon 4.0, which came out 6 years ago and has had numerous graphics, data, and exe overhauls. A new exe is not necessary (this was just an example), but if a 6 year old game can look near as good as LOMAC, then there's no reason why the Starshatter community couldn't take the game to the next level.
High poly SS models with hi-res textures would only add to the popularity and longevity of SS, and these could be done by the community. If control over IP and/or canon is an issue, then Milo could approve all add-ons or upgrades to the Starshatter universe. This model is used very successfully by Oleg Maddox in his IL-2 series of flight sims, where 3rd parties develop the flight models, 3d models, and cockpits and he personally approves them before adding them to a patch.
Like I said, it looks like a win-win for Milo and the community (which would likely grow as a direct result of this)

falcon 4. for the 'love of god we DONT need that kind of community here, in fighing egos WAY to big for the owners and a lot of other problems turned that community into a joke, granted, before all this sp4 crap and legal crap and blah blah happened it WAS a great community, my friends and I had MANY hours of fun on sp3.
on the dat front, we should just let that die, milo will do what milo wants, and it will be good for us.
try to remmeber that milos has released info on how to do everything else, there will be nothing easy about dyn campaigns and such
and as for high rez ships, hell I can do that right now, you dont need milos models to do that , and last I checked(could be wrong) magic cant export to 3ds so doing a point for point exact size copy would be impossible anyways.
The only issue would be the actuall defs, but fortuantly thats not my problem(yet) lol
I guess I misunderstood your original post; I was under the impression that the door to modding SS vessels was closed. And I agree with your assessment of what has become with F4. You have to assume that egos will always come into play. After all, it's the egotists who make all the noise in the first place. There are also plenty of quiet, unassuming folks in both F4SP and FreeFalcon who just plug away to make a great sim.
Besides, despite the RP/eFalcon/SP/FF turf wars, we still have a much better Falcon than 1.08. That, ultimately, is what matters.
I don't think we need data edits at this point, either. Or if there are edits, these should be strictly controlled and/or approved my Milo. The intent of my original post, however, stands.
I think we're in violent agreement on this one!
