not really. You used to be able to do that in early UV but it was toned down so that now it's pretty impotent.

Nik, inregards to dropping and being eliminated, I droppen a JAp para over several days on Rangoon in an early after initial release game and beleive they retreated into the rail hex... cutting off overland supply... is this in error?

The goal of the air drop was to cut the retreat path from Darwin. They were to drop the same day the transports hit and would have been expected to hold for 1-2 days so I do not see this as a problem.

I ended up marching a unit that I had fast transported to an adjacent beach hex to block the path. Took and extra week but complished the same mission.

A para unit dropped on the non base hex would have made this easier. Maybe a rules change (Patch) would allow drops into clear hexes.

BTW, Darwin's CD guns are no joke. I lost 5 MSW and 3 APs in the landing not to mention the 15-20 others that got banged up. The paras would have been safer going by air. I lost over 3k troops during the landing alone according to the combat reports.

Maximum I can agree with is landing units on the hex next to the base hex. By no means should the player ever be able to just drop a regiment of paratroopers in the middle of Australian semi-deserts...

yes though whether its a bug or just an oversite i'm not sure. There is a routine that auto-retreats a weak unit away from a base hex that is strongly defended. This applies for units landed by sea as well as air drop. If the para unit is weak enough i suppose it might retreat first though normally it's supposed to shock attack first.

If it doesn't i'm afraid it would qualify as an exploit.
