Noob Q

Post by ago1000 »

1. I was wondering if it possible to direct a Surface Combat TF running the Toyko Express to a specific location. I have a Surface Combat TF consisting of CAs, CLs and DDs making a night run into Shortland and destroy all the IJN APs and AGs there. However, I have a Air Combat TF nearby and would like my Surface Combat TF to return its location because I have AO waiting to replenish it.

Thanks[&o]

Yes it is possible to direct a Surface TF to a fast transport mission.
Open the TF screen and click on the top right button to change the mission to fast transport instead of surface combat.
Regarding your surface TF, select as destination the hex where is sitting the AO and once your TF has reached it select replenish at sea and your TF will start to be refueled by the AO.

Hope this answer to your question.

Thanks again Pumba1986 for responding.
I think I may have led you astray when I mentioned the Toyko Express. My Combat TF is not carring supplies. They are going into Shortlands at night and smashing the IJN APs that are unprotected their. However, they head directly for home after the mission (like the manual states-this is the problem). I then have to set its destination back to by air combat TF with the AO effectively losing an attack turn. On the next turn I can replenish them and attack again and repeat the entire process over again. Is it possible to direct the Combat TF back to the Air Combat TF directly without having to set its destination hex on the turn following its attack?
Thanks[&o]

Hi ago,

I afraid you're stuck with having it return to homebase, unless your other task force is located in a land hex with either a base or a dot. TFs unfortunately cannot be designated as a homebase.

Hope you're having fun blasting those barges though. [8D]

You also may only replenish fuel at sea, not ammunition. So your surface TF really needs to go back to a base to rearm.

Thanks you for the replys. I'm playing Scen 17 for the first time and I've had the game for 2 years now. (I absolutely love it and have spent many a night playing just one more turn.) I've had 3 strokes of good luck in the early going
1) Sinking 2 IJN CV and heavily damaging 1 CVL by PM but losing 1 CV myself really early on in the game (turn 7,8,9). This has never happened before.[X(]
then
2) I was caught with my pants down. A large IJN CV task force consisting of 5CVs and 3 CVLs (if reports are right) showed up out of nowhere when my air combat TF CAP was only 30% and my torp bombers and dive bombers where only set to Stand down. However it sent out only bombers and not a single bomb hit any of my CV. In fact all of my fighters flew destroying 67 of their planes. Can't figure this one out. Didn't even see the IJN navy coming. (I was around Lunga-they were sending in the troops)
and recently and why I'm asking the question:
3) That same task force above decided to retire along with the BBs that where bombarding Lunga to pieces and left the APs, AGs and some DD unprotected. So I moved my carriers up again and sent in Combat TF (25 ships of CL, CA, DD class) to the beaches once and into Shortland, twice over 6 days. Sank most of the ships there (loved every minute) while my Air Combat TF hammered the APs off shore trying to land troops. Sunk most but not all the ships (have sunk 72 IJN ships many APs, DDs and only lost 14 of mine-7/25/42). It just makes me wonder if a situation like this arises again if I could attack 6 times in 6 days and that is why I asked the question. However, I didn't realize that my TF is not recieving ammo (and tough on its Endurance) so maybe it was for the best. Thanks again everyone.[&o]

This might be the first game I could win in two years. (I love this game)
