Yup, never saw this chromed version untill recently. Kind of like 'pimp my nuke'. I think this thing had a range of a little over a mile. So I guess you dig a hole, fire, duck, and hope for the best. Can you imagine what kind of situation one would have to be in for this thing to seem like a good option?

Well...this weapon was conceived in the 1950s and I don't it had quite sunk in yet that nukes are a bit excessive as battlefield weapons. Remember, the 50s were also the heyday of the nuclear artillery shell.

Speaking of Nukes in the 50's, I have a copy of my father's Marine's Handbook from 1956. The last chapter talks about how to safely move into areas that have been nuked within hours of the explosion. They say radiation poses no threat and since the explosion has passed, it is safe to move in.
