Well, there are always a lot of other ships around, and most missions have a clear objective (go destroy this cruiser, sweep that area for enemy fighters, etc)... so no, Pioneer is not a word I'd use.

But graphics wise there is a much longer ranged scale than in a lot of combat games.... you are seldome within close visual range of other freindly ships, and you start firing on the badguys when they are still fairly small specs in the distance... so sorta....

Why do so many people read the site, or the reviews, and start downloading, and think this is privateer?

Phrases such as...
You begin the game as either a fighter pilot or the captain of a small Frigate-class starship. As you progress through the game, you can earn promotions and awards until you are commanding a massive fleet carrier with three wings of fighters and a complete escort of warships.

... sound a lot like the phrasing used to describe the progression through ships and upgrades found in Privateer or Elite: Frontier.

If you know what Starshatter's all about, the meaning is clear. If you don't, the blurb is pretty easy to misinterpret as a space-based RPG/combat game.

Might be useful to state very bluntly at the outset that Starshatter is a wargame/simulation, with both single-battle scenarios, multiplayer single-battle scenarios, and battle scenarios in the framework of operational-scale campaigns.

Probably because "Privateer", while somewhat weak in and of itself was a really good game for its time. Something I hope gets redone... Time will tell. [8D]

Yeah, if they took the sequel (Privateer 2: the Darkening) and Freelancer from MS, breed them, and selected the best of the offspring, we might just be talking!

Are you trying to say MS made something that had good parts?

Sorry, I had to.

At least they had guns that were case mounted instead of fixed mounted.
