My first AAR- TRUE story

true story -

so i was trying to fall asleep, and i look at my clock, and it says 4, thats am not pm[:'(]

so i think, ok, time to give up

so i turn on my lights and turn my computer back on

and i call up UV

i play allied for a bit have a few successes

then, i decide to try it as the ijn

well

i did the coral sea scenario

i invaded new guinea

and to my suprise, CAPTURED GILI GILI

i was shocked

then, i send sho, zui and shoho down to provide air support right?

well, then the lady lex and the yorktown show up

they see each other, and go after 1 another like a cat to catnip

they attack first

a few a/c losses, no shipboard damage

THEN

the KB strikes back[X(]

and the result?


lexington - 3 bombs - 2 torps

yorktown - 5 [X(][X(] TORPS

once again i was in shock

even tho i knew the quality of my pilots was very high, i didnt quite expect this result

both were left ABLAZE

later, Lex AND yorktown were CONFIRMED as SUNK!

my first carrier kills of UV[:D]


wats left of the escort withdraws, and in wat i considered a bold move, i had my carriers set a course of 270, straight for port moresby, and set a zero squadron to cap, and the rest to attack PM's airfield, along with bombers and fighters from rabaul

in a series of aerial battles, more than 30 allied ac are destroyed, in the air and on the ground, and pms arfield is hit reasonably hard


unfortunately, Gili gili fell to an allied counter attack[:(]

however, in a further coup for ME [:'(]

i sent a couple subs to noumea, and they quickly bag TWO allied heavy cruisers[:D]

but

this is the part ull really love....

a short time later, in wat i considered another bold move.....


japanese forces CAPTURED PORT MORESBY!

shock and awe followed on my part, and i was almost delirious [:D]

tho ive only spent maybe a grand total of an hour or 2 playing it


i was quite suprised to see this result, in my first dedicated effort to win the cioral sea scenario

and, considering the losses i inflicted upon the poor allies, ie lex and york sunk, and port moresby captured, i believe...

i suceeded.......................

i have another great success to report

as the allies, i engaged the KB.......

and WON

once again, i played the coral sea scenario, as the allies of course

i began transporting troops and supplies with dakotas to pm and gg

however, gg, and buna both fell

but ur never going to believe the successes i had.......

in wat i considered another bold move, instead of sending lex and york into danger, i transferred their air groups to pm, along with several bomber groups and set them to naval attack and naval search

this of course, turned pm into an unsinkable aircraft carrier

then, the jap carriers came...

and so did the attacks against them

bombs were put into their hulls, and my carriers were safe in australia, but thei airgroups attacked shokaku, zuikaku and shoho

the results?

zuikaku and shoho were left AFIRE

a short time later, they were BOTH CONFIRMED as SUNK!

and there was much rejoicing

as this was my first kills on a JAP carrier [:D]

i also used my subs, and they sank 4 jap minesweepers, along with other ships of course

then, i sent a surface group to try to attack the invasion and supply ships of gili gili

2 allied CAs, 1 cl, and 2 DDs engaged ca kinugasa and ca furutaka

furutaka sank during the battle, and kinugasa was later engaged by FIVE of my CAs and SUNK

but this is the GOOOD Part....

as i watched the screen, i was shocked to see that the cruiser group, had come accross the jap TROOP convoy, protected by ONE destroyer

the destroyer went to the bottom, guns firing

then the cruisers went to work on the convoy

they sank at LEAST 2 transports

1 transport even opened fire, and went down fighting


the cruisers took only light damage

ik that this is a bit unbelievable, but it is a 100% true story


the final results?

with the loss of shoho and zuikaku, and the fact that lex and york survived the battle completely intact, but still had a role in sinking the enemy flattops, this is a great tactical victory for the USN

yes, i lost buna and gili gili, but i sent a massive troop convoy of approx 1 division to retake gg, with buna being next

i think i might actually b getting the hang of UV

any1 else agree, or is it just me?

1 question tho

the scen was going into june, but shouldnt it have ended on about the 17th of may?


anyway, the final result as i quit, since i couldnt figure out how to end the scen [:'(] -

so, in short, if in right, i believe i have won the battle of the coral sea as the ijn AND the allies

maybe not decisively, but with the sinking of shoho and zui, and the intactness of lex and york, a great victory for the mighty and proud USN!!!

of course, im still having a few problems here and there, like supply and troop transport

but i think im getting the hang of it [:D]
