Production (Allied)

Post by velkro »

I've done some basic research and here is what I've found:

India needs 2305 Oil points per day to keep its HI production lines going.
India only grows 450 Oil points per day.
Therefore, Australia needs to import 1855 Oil points per day.

Australia needs 2910 Oil points per day to keep its HI production lines going.
Australia only grows 450 Oil points per day.
Therefore, Australia needs to import 2460 Oil points per day.

This doesn't even count the 2:1 Oil:HI requirement.

The US has a surplus of 580 Oil Points per day, assuming it maximizes daily use of oil to its own HI in US/Seattle/SanFran/LA/SanDiego.

With a max of 580 going from US to Aus/Ind per day, and their need for 4315 per day, doesn't that seem a bit odd?

It seems that as soon as the DEI falls, India and Australian production lines are going to dry up perty quickly and there's nothing to be done about it. Am I missing something here?

One more thing--USSR production: With no starting ships, how the heck is USSR supposed to ship its oil from Okha to the mainland Siberian factories?

Hi, Non USA industry is mainly intended on providing limited supply and fuel. Of course the lack of it can also influence play.
As the Allies I do not just run from SRA. I load all the oil/resource I can get my hands on.
I fight as best I can in Malaya to allow a few shipments to escape. I drain Rangoon.
My best result was over 200,000 oil shiped to Oz before I lost control of the bases.

Can we get an offical respnse to the following question.....

Does the allied system use Oil and resources , requiring the shipment of said resources from the USA?

One must remember that in the real war the US drained almost 90% of it's oil reserves and stock piles to help it's Allies to win the war. The result of this was the pratical world wide exploration for Oil. Remember that the British was in modern day Iraq, Kuwait, and SA during the war, and didn't even know about the oil that was right beneath their very feet.

This is the main reason for the US to be importing such vast quantities from the Middle East today.

I have often wondered if the oil situation for Austrialia is represented properly in the game. Mainly you can keep Austrialia running fairly well for few months on DEI oil, even build up a stock pile. But once the stock pile is exhuasted, your HI and supply point production are drastically cut. After a little reseach it seems that Austrailia's oil situation was much worse then depicted in the game. Austrialian Petrol Rationing

"Petrol Rationing

Petrol rationing was first enforced in Australia in October, 1940, a little more than twelve months after the commencement of the 1939-45 War. No very drastic cuts in consumption were made for some time, but, commencing in April, 1941, when the replenishment of stocks from overseas supply sources was becoming increasingly difficult and uncertain, progressive reductions in the monthly allowances to civilian users were made, the basic ration being finally reduced to the equivalent of only 800 miles of running per annum. The period of severest rationing lasted from late in 1941 until towards the end of 1944, non-military consumption during these three years or thereabouts being at a rate not very much in excess of one-third of the estimated pre-war rate of 30 million gallons per month.

With the improvement in the war situation in 1944, it was found possible, without making any specific amendment of the rationing schedules, to do something in the direction of granting claims for additional allowances of petrol in individual cases where circumstances appeared to justify this course and to relax to some extent the very heavy pressure which had been applied during the critical years of the war to enforce the use of producer gas units."

Arkady,

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but the WITP Manual says it takes 2 oil to keep the HI center running, but that only 1 oil is actually expended per HI center. Am I to reason that the manual is inaccurate on this?

Thanks,

yes, to my tests only 1 oil point is necessary and only 1 oil point is consumed by 1 HI

Doesnt one oil produce 6 oil points? Meaning if there is a 50 oil site at a city it produces 300 oil points a turn?

Yes, that's true. Also, if the oil center is on a coastal hex, the oil center will produce 1 point of fuel per each point in size of the oil center. So, a 50 point oil center on a coastal hex would produce 300 oil and 50 fuel per day.

Regarding oil for Australia. My feeling is that it is more effective to shut down some U.S. heavy industry, and send extra oil to Australia. This way, you can avoid using the oil in the U.S., and then having to ship the resulting fuel AND supplies to the war areas around Australia. Better just to ship the oil.

It does seem odd that the Allies (Australia and India) are short of oil. Even without the DEI the Allies had a surplus of oil.

Bit of research on the net dug up sources stating that Australia had enough oil stockpiled to last at least a couple of years normal usage at the outbreak of war. And evidently most of their oil during the war was shipped in from the Middle East. Shipments were patchy up until 1944 due to shipping crises of one form or another.

Mind you I haven't really noticed much impact in the game. Allies seem to have stacks of every thing and then some.

Cheers

What was that source considering as normal useage?

Wartime useage is so far beyond normal civilian useage, it's just unbelieveable.

Military training requirements alone are huge.
