Difficulties with japanese forces

hi everybody,

i have a little problem with japanese subs and troops.
what ist the difference between a I-X and a I-XXX?
what is a RO-XX sub?

somewhere in the manual stands that the japanese have similar forces to the marines.
are this the SNLF?

and does somebody know a good site which is dedicated to japanese forces of WW2?
i would like to learn more about japanese tactics, armour, planes and subs.

Japanese Armor = Think of a German PzIVe....now imagine it with 1/2 the speed, gun power and armor....There you go.[;)]

Japanese RO type subs were small coastal defense types.

Japanese aircraft engines were generally of relatively low horsepower. In their planes they omitted things like armor and heavy guns to compensate.

Regarding the difference between a I-X and a I-XXX subs, you can use the second one for minelaying as they have a good mine transport capacity whereas I-X subs are very limited in this purpose because they get a very small mine transport capacity (only 2 mines IIRC). Moreover I-X overcomes I-XXX in terms of speed and range (3x range of I-XXX).

I-121 class is real minelayer sub (three subs in class: I-121, I-122, I-123). Only little bug there, you don't see the mine as seperate weapon, but have to set the sub as sub minelayer and THEN refuel it at port and voilá: 164 mines. I-16 class is best IJN sub, as it has 8 foward tubes. 8 torp spread, more change for hit/attack.

RO- subs are best used as coastal. That is, plant them in your own ports, where you expect enemy bombardement TF's. Odd's are they take shot at enemy CA's and BB's as they approach. And if your port has fuel and supply, it can stay there for ever.
