My boss, not the Company doesn't mind us cruising teh net that much. He is results oriented. If all of our customers are happy, our other projects are on track it is no big deal. It is assumed that when somehting hot or urgent comes up we will get right on it, and we do. SO he has the good sense to leave us alone. That and all of our cruising isn't a bad thing. We all have become much more efficient at finding out information on test equipment and such for our customers. And yes Zoomie, 40 hour week would be nice. I don't have to do more than 45 often but, there have been times in the past before we started to clean up our quality policy that 100 a week was normal. When I worked for Qualcomm if we worked less than 60 a week we thought that we were in trouble.

Hmmm.... how odd.... employers actually want employes to WORK their 40 hrs a week.....Oh... I forgot, Euro's don't like to work that much.... When's the last time a US white-collar worker had the "luxury" of a meager 40 hr work week?????

And we have socialised medicine! And low gun crime! And some vague sense of job security! Shocking! U'all must be glad you won war of independance...

S - public servant working 60 hour weeks getting paid for 40

TNot start a political debate here, but a great reason the US enjoys such large ecomonic growth and such low unemployment usually between 4 and 6% even in recessionary times, is we have the freedom to FIRE people here for cause. If you aren't getting your job done you're gone, period, no tenure, no anything. God Bless Ronald Reagon for crushing the Patco (Air Traffic Controllers Union) and giving us the RIGHT to dump worthless employees. No 10+% unemployment here. Strange concept that companies will feel free to HIRE EN-MASSE when they know that they can dump en-masse as well.

It's a good technique to use. My boss uses with me. I use it with others. Get the work done, get it done on time, I will leave you alone. Don't, and I'll be in your shorts in a bad way..... And here, we can fire louts without some assine goverment "right to work" nonsense or useless labor union getting the way.

You mean "Panzerlied"? I am 99% sure it's banned.

The first verse of Panzerlied is great. Unfortunately there are other verses that tend to, um, denigrate those who opposed the Nazis. That's why the song was banned -- or so I was told by a (West) German Tank Battalion Commander circa 1983.

It's not banned as such, just the last paragraph is not to be sung - because it refers to the possibility of being killed and the tank becoming the tomb of its crew. Silly pc thing, just another example for the unrealistic training of the German Armed Boyscouts.

Jap or what? ok, and they where Nazi, oh brother! Does anyone know the Panzer song highlighted in the movie Battle of the Buldge"? in German I believe it is just that tank song... I read it was BANNED in germany... it really has nothing to do with the nazi's, its just a song for troops... not unike many "US' songs...

Anyone know if the banning I heard of was true?

You mean "Panzerlied"? I am 99% sure it's banned. Now one of Luftwaffe songs "Bomben auf England" may be another thing [:D][:D] This guy I share the office with used to play it all the time (he hates Nazis, but is enthusiast for all things air, so a good Luftwaffe song must have triggered his interest [:D])

But their reasons for banning stuff like that in Germany is that they are very afraid of any pro-nazi feelings resurfacing and want to cut them before they even appear.

O.

Ja, you think that's bad? I used to work with a guy who came to work in
an SS uniform and he'd march around goose-stepping and heiling Hitler.
Finally, we just had to shoot him. There wasn't anything else the PC people would let us do.

If you don't like seeing "Matrix Games" if 64-point font at the top of every web page I might have a solution for you.

I just started using a browser called irider (www.irider.com). It loads two web pages each time I click on a link if these forums. One has "matrix Games" in it and the other doesn't. I close down the one I don't want and go on from there. I don't know why it does that because I've only been using it for two days now. Of course, it's hard to make the web page look business related with all of the banners you guys have in your posts now, but that is another issue.

One forum I look at lets people put ANY picture as their avatar and some people use porn pictures. I had to stop going to that forum at work. (The actual forum had nothing at all to do with porn but it probably wouldn't matter if I got caught).

The Matrixgames banner is displaying in a frame; what you describe is opening just the forum page without the frame.

You can usually turn off the display of avatars. You can also block images from their server, but that won't work for linked avatars.

Would you have hired them even before all this discussion of wasting time at work? [:'(]

Large Slow Target,

Don't you dare change your signature tag, it has brought me great joy. If you do have to get rid of it for some idiotic reason I'll take it. I'm sure those nice young ladies would be very good at tending seaplanes.

Regarding the rest of you poor monkeys having to work for a living under repressive regimes. I have an appropriate Australian phrase for all of you, "Sucked in".

Really, I hope you can get out from under the tyrannical control of these mindless taskmasters.
