Good job in the face of overwhelming force, Rob! That's gotta hurt, Xargun.
What hurt was that the allies suprised my TF and its first barrage took out my torp launchers on the only ship to have any left (one of the CAs). Then we closed to 6000 yards in which most of Rob's ships couldn't hit crap - but neither could I... Then we sailed away to like 10,000 or so and his ships found their marks.. blasting me...

ROYAL NAVY ANSWERS THE CALL
(BBC Singapore) Royal Navy Officials are reporting that British warships met and destroyed 2 Japanese task forces south of Balikpapan in an overnight battle between opposing navies. Officials say that at least 3 Japanese cruisers and 3 destroyers were sunk or heavily damaged in fierce fighting. Once the British ships broke through the screening force they joined with American and Dutch warships and attacked Japanese shipping and bombarded enemy land forces fighting the Dutch garrison for control of Balikpapan.
DEATH AND DESTRUCTION AT PEARL HARBOR
(AP Hawaii) American military officials now believe that the enemy carriers attacking Pearl Harbor and the surrounding areas have finally retired to the northeast. The Japanese warplanes struck targets in and around the harbor killing at least 300 and causing severe damage to the repair facilities. Naval officials refused to comment on how many warships may have been sunk or damaged in the harbor itself, but said that it could be months before the surface fleet could project power beyond the shores of the West Coast.
MACARTHUR DRIVES ENEMY BACK IN PHILLIPINES
(UPI Manilla) USAAFE is reporting that its ground forces have met the enemy on the beaches of Northern Luzon and pushed them back into the seas. USAAFE reports that B-17s flying out of Clark Airfield attacked transports off the coast possibly sinking two. Philippine divisions then met remaining Japanese landing forces and drove them back into the seas causing heavy loss of life on the invaders.

Well a much better turn when compared to last turn.. much better indeed. 1 Ship sunk in search phase the AK Assam... Not sure if its mine or Rob's, but I'm leaning towards Rob's as it doesn't have the usual japanese 'Maru' after its name. Must have sunk from previous damage - might have been one of the AKs my baby CV TF hit last turn.
Rob's subs are still very aggressive, this time catching a damaged DD heading back to Saigon for the trip home for repairs and put 2 fish into her.. She exploded and sank quickly.
My cavalry arrives in Balikpapin just in time to watch my beleagured Brigade (more like 25% of a brigade from losses when its transporting APs were sunk) Shock attacked for the second day in a row and drove the evil Dutch from the base capturing it 100% in tack. No damage to any of its oil and very little damage to anything else - a little port damage from Rob's bombardments I'm sure.
My BB TF arrived in Balikpapan and completely wiped out the 6 PTs Rob had stationed there harrassing my AKs.. The first round my TF surprised the PTs and sunk 4.. Next round I fired first completely (range 4000 yards... I think they were out of torps - wasting them all on AKs over the previous couple of days) and sunk the remaining two.
Nells from Kendari reportedly put a couple of torps into some CLs in the area, but their chance against the POW Battlegroup fails miserably.. Not much losses, but they only send 8 bombers... Why even bother I ask ? I'll have to recall the air leaders on Kendari for a private conference.... Hope they bring their second with them... they will need them..
My baby CV TF scored more hits sinking the remaining 2 AKs fleeing from it... Kinda odd.. They launch 29 Nates after 1 AK and then 5 Nates after the second AK.. Nothing like overkill....
Rob's air raid at Hanoi was fairly effective - mostly in downing my useless Nates flying CAP, but his small number of bombers inexperienced Brit bombers scored no hits on their target. BTW, the AVG was involved in this raid - thus the success against my pilots.
On the ground in china my forces captured Homan - important link on the NW railways to Lanchow and Changsha - after much fighting... I have no idea why I took Changsha now as the industry and resources there are gutted - I doubt I will repair any of it - not worth it... Perhaps I'll just pull out and let partisans finish the job Rob's engineers (or my artillery) started...
I also took Biak Island in PNG via sub assault and have landed troops on Admiralty Island... starting my offensives from Truk.
Other than that not much is happening... Enjoy the AAR...

Well the turns are getting better for me each day... Where to start.. Well lets start with the low points... I lost 2 MSW to the same sub without scoring any hits... Not a good showing for my ASW efforts.
My large BB TF arrived at Macassar hoping to find a bristling port full of ships, but only found a lone slightly damaged DD.. They opened fire and after 4 hits, the DD exploded and sunk - 16.1" shells can do some fast damage to unarmored ships... The TF then proceeded to bombard the base, killing a bunch of men...
A IJN sub found an allied MSW poking around by itself and put some fish into it sending it to the bottom.
Admiral Nagumo - what can I promote him to ??? returned to PH after a 2 day delay in which his mechanics worked miracles on the loads of damaged planes. The KB returned to KB with all remaining planes operational and launched another wave at PH.. The port and airfield were primary targets, both getting hit hard.. Dozens of planes reported destroyed on the ground, as well as numerous torp and 800 kg bomb hits on the remaining BBs... The BB Maryland took 4 bombs and 2 torps and settled to the bottom of the harbor - scoring yet another BB kill for me bringing my total to 4 now..
The KB also had squadrons assigned to Naval Attack and we spotted a nice CA near PH but no attack was launched.. Hmmm ? Oh well.. I am very happy with the results of both my initial and this last stab at PH and the KB will be retiring now to hammer other targets.... Perhaps OZ (and the fleeing RN warships) need some abuse... Yes.. I think they most certainly do..
My forces on the ground captured 3 undefended bases this turn: Alor Star (Malaya), Ormoc (PI) and Admiralty Island. My paratroopers joined the fun in china and air assaulted both Kunming and Kweiyang. Kweiyang should fall to my paratroopers over the next turn as more men are flown in and the force at Kunming can hopefully damage some industry and hold the line until more reinforcements can be flown into Kweiyang. If this move is successful, I will have gutted 1 of my paratrooper Regiments, but captured a strategic chinese base, cutting off supplies to 3 other bases and countless chinese units...
Once captured, I have a fresh division (fresh from the capture of Hong Kong) waiting to be airlifted into Kweiyang which should be plenty of force to hold it until my main forces arrives overland.
Other then a few air raids from Kendari (only 1 scored any hits) planting some more fish into fleeing allied ships, not much happened..
Here is the report for you...

Hell, Xargun you captured Alor star very quickly - qudos.
I would be worried, with the way the land based naval units eat your experienced pilots, that the damage you have done to the KB airwings will mean you get rubbish replacements - head to Kwajalein asap!

Hell, Xargun you captured Alor star very quickly - qudos.
I would be worried, with the way the land based naval units eat your experienced pilots, that the damage you have done to the KB airwings will mean you get rubbish replacements - head to Kwajalein asap!
Alor Star was deserted... Rob retreated. He is trying to pull everything he has south to Singapore while I try to move west as fast as I can and cut off the route south via Khota Jhora (I think thats the base's name). Its a race to see how long it takes me to take that base and seal off his troops.
Yes and no... I have been skimping on all the understrength Navy air groups everywhere else on the map - except for Betties and Nells and still have 40 or so IJN pilots left in my pool. Saving them for the retirement of my CVs. Last game I had none left and made do with half experience pilots - so this time around even 30-40 experienced pilots will make a much bigger difference, plus this game my Zeros have lost maybe 10 pilots between them all - used them a lot smarter this time - no strafing of airfields after turn 1... Biggest loss is in Kates and her pilots, but my pool is filling up with them and given 2-3 days in a decently supplied port the KB will be 100% again and ready to strike whever I want..
Xargun
15 December
Well another ok turn for the Imperial Japanese Empire... The turn starts with the damn Dutch subs around Borneo and Malaya putting more torps into my merchies... Luckily nothing sunk this time around..
While clearing mines at Hong Kong I lost a MSW.. apparently it just exploded for no reason.. No reports of it hitting a mine... kinda odd... I'm assuming it hit a mine, but still...
I lost 1 AP this turn, finally sinking from previous torp damage
My Nells out of Kendari claim the AV Langley, after the ship was blocked from view by a horrific explosion gutting it.. The ship is not reported sunk, but from the size of the magazine explosion, it is definately a goner..
A surface TF south of Kendari came upon the damaged CL Mauritius - and opened fire at extreme range. Closest they got was 19,000 yards, but dozens of 8" shells reportedly bounced off CL armor - is that right ? A CL repelling 8" shells ? Even tower armor ? At 19,000 yards I finally got 2 reported 8" shells through some tower armor (finally) and started some fires, but the CL will probably escape due to it's impenetrable armor..
Well Nagumo pulled a good move... He split the KB... Parts of hit hit PH last turn and are now retiring to the west, while another piece of it sprinted eastward hoping to catch some TFs from the west coast... and they did... They found a 5 ship TF consisting of 3 AKs and 2 TKs... They bombed the hell out of them (range 5 so no torps or they would all be sunk this turn)... All ships were reported hit and 4 were burning after the first wave. The second attack hammered on 4 ships, sinkng an AK before leaving. With the damage the TF sustained it will move 1 hex this turn, making it easy prey for my planes.. I will move closer and let loose the torps.. The surviving 4 ships will soon be submerged...
My land offensive in China is slowing down as supply trains catch up. My men have captured Jolo this turn - but unfortunately Rob retreated his air unit off the island before I could destroy it.. Oh well.. another island down and 1200 allied POWs...
My offensive for Mindanao is off to a good start as Cagayan falls to my men. The units there retreated to Davao too, so it will be easier to take the island if I don't have to chase them all over it like last time..
Other than that the only thing to report is the crookedness of the Do24 search plane. This turn they reported 3 hits - 2 on the same TK.. All reported victim were in port and under friendly CAP. No other search planes even comes close to these number of attacks so I am getting more and more convinced something is not right with the Do24s... No idea what, but something is not right....
Well enjoy the AAR...

RE: 15 December
MURDER!!!!!
Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet gave a rare press conference today in front of his still smolder headquarters to express his outrage with the sinking of 4 luxury liners packed with military dependents by the Japanese naval air arm. Admiral Kimmel told the throng of newsmen, "The outrages of the Japanese empire and their immoralistic leader Xargun continue. While on the journey back to San Diego, a small convoy of non-military transports were torpedoed and bombed this morning. The transports were clearly marked as non military (with red crosses on the top) and yet the Xargunites attacked the civilian craft anyway. There are reports that after 2 of the 4 ships sank. Enemy aircraft went back and straffed survivors in their life rafts. You can print this in the biggest, boldest newspaper lettering possible. Xargunites, you will lose this war and you will be held accountable for your crimes, we will try you and dispense final justice upon you." With that Kimmel stalked back into his badly damaged headquarters buildings.

16 December
More Murders on the High Seas.... at least thats what the US High command calls it when Imperial Japanese Military Aircraft sink ships carrying military cargoes and weaponry... In more daring raids between Hawaii and the West Coast, a branch of the KB found and finished the job is began yesterday, sending the survivors of that 5 ship fleet to the bottom..
Also more TFs were located nearby and attacks were launched... 3 more US AKs sank beneath the waves by IJN pilots. In all, IJN pilots aboard the baby KB sent a total of 5 AKs and 3 TKs to the bottom in a heavy day of fighting.. No casualties were reported amongst the IJN pilots... When asked if they felt bad about sinking what the US is calling noncombatants, the replied "Hell No... We found soldiers wearing the uniforms of the US Army 65th Coastal AA unit floating amongst the wreckage.. These were definately not noncombatnats fleeing the war zone, but enemy soldiers entering it."
In other news the IJN BB TF met up with a single fleeing allied AK, as well as 6 dutch PTs. After a few rounds of shell exchange, 2 dutch PTs were seen fleing the scene .. all other enemy ships were sunk..
Rob responded to my invasion of Cagayan with a small TF of PTs, but I had escorts on the TF. Not heavily escorted, but enough to drive off the attacking PTs and sink one.. Their attacks damaged one PC..
The main body of the KB approached Johnson Island and attacked near dawn. They bombed the port facilities and a lone MSW tied alongside the pier.. Reports indicate a 250 and 800 kg bomb hitting the MSW... The main body is reportedly on its way to the Marshall Islands where it plans to take on new aircraft and pilots before heading for OZ...
On the land front, I captured Tavoy and Miri, sending the defending BFs skirting for safety. I also captured Wuchow and Taiping which were both undefended.. I now have several allied units trapped in Georgetown.
My attack on Johore Bahru was rebuffed easily by the British forces standing safely behind their level 5 fort... It seems I will not be able to take this base quickly and cut off Singapore despite my efforts.. oh well.. I will simply bomb this base into rubble and then proceed to Singapore.
My attempt at cutting off Robs frontal units by capturing Kweiyang is proving to be a failure. From what was a single BF unit last turn, 4 more units turned up this turn, including 2 BFs and 2 combat units... My Shock attack failed miserably...
IN better news, I have captured the remains of a Chinese Corps that was trying to attack Kuikang. I surrounded the unit and it quickly surrendered.. These new laborers will be sent to the mines to support the japanese empire... All those that resist will be shot.
IN all a decent turn for me - especially east of PH where I am racking up merchie kills.. The main reason I came East was that my subs off the west coast spotted several large US TFs leaving the West Coast and heading west (skirting my sub pickets - by my sub planes spotted them)... There was a large AP and AK fleet, which I am hoping is carrying the Marine division from the west coast... It would be wonderful if I could kill those damn marines on the high seas where they are helpless... But we will see.... I can't be too aggressive that I run out of munitions on my CVs as Rob has a CV on the west coast, but I don't think he'll send her out, as I believe he has very few escorts for her and she would be an easy target for my kates.... on second hand, come on out and play
Well here's the AAR...

16 December
Well the turn started out bad and only got mediocre.. Another one of Rob's subs appeared out of nowhere and put a torp and some 4" shells into a fully loaded AK off Vietnam.. As the ship fled the sub did not chase the burning wreck, who was defeating the fires only because the ship was filling with water faster than it could cope.. The ship is not expected to survive the day...
In better news, my baby KB east of Hawaii scored some more hits.. It started the morning with a nice overkill mission of 24 Kates against a lone AK. The AK was struck by 2 torps before is sank beneath the waves and further Kates could not attack it...
Another 2 more air raids were launched before noon catching another convoy to the NE, sending 2 more fully loaded AKs to the bottom and crippling a third... Hundreds of bodies were seen floating amongst the wreckage - more troops loaded upon merchies... Val pilots reported a few strafing runs against the non-defended convoy as well.... [not really but in real life they probably would have against such a lightly defended convoy]
Zeros out of Kendari made an early morning air raid over the port of Banjarmas, hitting a pair of PTs on a morning patrol... Numerous cannon hits were reported as well as a single bomb hit - one PT is assumed sunk..
From out of nowhere an AP is reported sunk somewhere on the west coast of Java.. I believe its Rob scuttling a damaged ship, as I havent attacked anything near there in a long time - at least 3-4 days.
My troops on the ground continue the pressure all throughout the SRA capturing Zamboanga (Mindinao) and Nanomea Atoll (South Pacific). Troops in china also capture Sian.. Heavy fighting in several other locations in china come out fairly even except in Ichang, where an illconceived attacked loses roughly 3500 japanese soldiers versus only 200 chinese.... not sure what happened there..
My men in Tatung (NE most china base) attacked a partial chinese unit there and caused them to retreat.. BUT, they retreated Eastward towards a Soviet Base.... This is ridiculus.. Now I have to chase down a chinese unit heading for soviet territory ? This ranks up there with using soviet bases for refuelling, repairs, etc... But I know Rob had no control over this... but I hope this is addressed in the next patch...
There were dozens of air raids on allied troops in china and malaya but I edited them out as there was nothing special except allied troops dying... Rob made a surprise raid on Truk's port again, with reports of a single bomb hit on a CL stationed there. This will most likely result in some sort of retaliation from the Truk Naval Command.... But Rob only attacked at 10,000 feet and had limited success - nice to know he's not taking advantage of the 32000+ bug... I figured he wouldn't do that... and its nice to see comfirmation...
The BB chase throughout the DEI has ended, as I have pulled both my BB TFs back for refueling and rearming.. Not sure if I want to chase him to northern OZ and into his air cover.. I'm not too worried about bomb damage on my BBs (they shrug off 500 and 1000 pounders like nothing), but a single torp hit can mean months in repair back in Japan - not counting the weeks it would take to get a crippled ship back to japan.... SO I will have to ponder this... Also pulling back my baby CV TFs as its low on aircraft torps and needs some fuel as well...
I am gonna start thinking of some more good missions and assigning names again soon... Hopefully this turn...
Here is the AAR for ya...

18 December
Hmm... where to start... I guess with the even exchange of gunfire at Mersing.. The 3 DDs from Hong Kong finally showed up on the map (having travelled all the way to malaya without me noticing them-- yet again) and attacked my landings at Mersing. Luckily I had a 3 DDs and a CL escorting them.. In an extended battle in which 2 of my DDs suffered magazine explosions and sank, my CL held off the 3 DDs almost by itself. It sank two of the attacking ships via mostly gunfire and a single torpedo hit. The DDs return volleys mostly bounced off the CLs armor..
The night of sub attacks... There must have been 6 or more sub attacks in the night phase of the turn... A very aggresive dutch sub O20 survived 2 ASW TF attacks and STILL let loose atorpedo attack on a passing merchie.. Luckily the crew was rattled from all the depth charges that their aim was off... Later during the day 2 more attacks on O20 managed to send her to the bottom - my first ASW kill of the game... I don't think O20 sank any ships, but definately hit numerous merchies with torps during his stay off the coast of Brunei.
Another dutch sub just outside Saigon's port reportedly put a torp into a CL there - but upon checking the ship reported hit, its a lie.. WHEW !!!!!
MY subs unleashed fire on 2 allied ships as well.. An AK off the coast of Ceylon took 2 fish and should be sinking soon.... As well as another AK took a hit off the coast of Noumea and sank. I'm assuming that AK at Noumea was carrying supplies either to Noumea or elsewhere.. Either way there goes some supplies for the south pacific.
I lost 2 AKs from previous damage, one in port and one trying to make port. Reports indicate at least 1 AK was fully loaded with precious food and ammo for the men fighting in Malaya..
Well thats the highlights of the Allied side of the turn and my downside... On brighter news... Last turn my Mavis's out of Kendari spotted an allied TF heading SE for TImor or Northern OZ. My baby CVs were 6 hexes away and did not launch any attacks last turn.. They were last spotted heading for Kendari.. I do not think Rob had located them last turn, or he would have diverted that merchie TF south away from my CVs... But they came on unknowningly right into nice torpedo range of my CV-borne Kates... During both the AM and PM phases, they launched a total of 4 attacks against 2 convoys (I think 2.. or 1 big convoy) hitting numerous merchies and sinking about half... several other ships were not reported sunk, but will probably not make port do to extensive torpedo damage... A total of 1 AK, 1 TK and 2 APs were reported sunk, with at least another AK and TK crippled and probably sinking.
ON the land my forces took Butuan (Mindanao) as well as Kuala Lumpur (without a fight) and Georgetown - captured the CD fortress there and over 3000 POWs... More men are marching on Johola Bharu (I think thats the base's name) and its expected to fall within a day or two.. But unfortunately it won't matter much, as ROb has had enough time to evacuate most (if not all) units to the north into the base so they will probably flee into singapore when it falls. My gambit failed - I didn't move fast enough nor with enough force to cut of singapore.. Oh well... it was a worthy attempt.
My only complaint this turn is that 2 of Rob's chinese units retreated away from a friendly base to stay on the railway between Changsha and another Japanese base... This is getting to be a pain trying to keep my supply lines clear of retreating chinese units.
Here is the AAR for ya... its once again editted to remove some of the bulk - mostly reports of landings and air bombardment of chinese and malayan troops..

My only complaint this turn is that 2 of Rob's chinese units retreated away from a friendly base to stay on the railway between Changsha and another Japanese base... This is getting to be a pain trying to keep my supply lines clear of retreating chinese units.[quote]
Now you have to ask yourself...are they truly retreating. [:D]

AMERICANS STRIKE BACK!
(AP Manilla) US Naval forces attacked and sank a merchant off the coast of Cayayan in an overnight surface action. The American Patrol Boats were moving near the Phillipino Island when they spotted a small group of Japanese transport vessels unloading troops and supplies. The Americans attacked with torpedos and machine guns causing a great deal of chaos in the transport group and bagging the supply ship.
ROYAL NAVY SUPREME!
(BBC Singapore) The Royal Navy continues to dominate the Japanese at every surface engagement, this time off the coast of Malaya where 3 Royal Navy destroyers attacked and sank two Japanese destroyers who were defending an enemy landing force. The British Destroyers suffered damage to two of their number and will be retiring to points unknown for repairs.
CHINESE AIR FORCE SOARS!
(Reuters) Chinese fighters attacked and destroyed an ill-concieved Japanese bomber attack over Chengtu today. 30 Japanese bombers appeared over the skies of Chengtu, unescorted, and were met by 1-16c fighters who savaged them in 30 minutes of air combat. Chinese officials say they bagged as many as 21 Betty bombers, but cautioned that may be a bit optimistic. Even if the Chinese only shot down half that number, it remains quite a victory over the Xargunite dynasty.

19 December
Another day and Japan's empire grows... In an act of baiting, the PC Seki Maru #2 suffered a torpedo hit and sunk, but revealed the position of an allied sub. The remaining ships of the TF pounced on the sub and sunk it.. Survivors were rescued and will receive medals for their bravery.. In another location the plan worked again - this time IJN lost a MSW, but they failed to hit the attacking sub.
Another IJN AP sunk in port due to previous damage - almost positive the ship suffered from torpedoitis... an uncommon problem with the keel of a ship. [:D] The ASW escorts at PH were on their toes as they caught an IJN sub moving through the hex and sent her to the bottom.. Looks like next time I'll pay more attention to routes chosen by my ships...
In better news the baby CV NW of Timor - with the help of Kendari-based Nells - located and raided several merchies W and SW of Timor... Kates and Nells filled the air over these unescorted ships sending 3 AKs and 1 TK to the bottom. All of these ships were damaged from last turn so easily spotted and attacked...
An IJN sub along the west coast of Java located and sunk an allied ML. Reports indicate that the ML Rigel was attempting to flee IJN forces alongside the western coast of Java when it ran afoul the sub.
In china forces exchanged a few bombardments but no major attacks reported as men and equipment move into position. My forces took Taytay (PI) as well as Noemfoor (PNG) without opposition, as small scale attacks step up the pace all along the DEI... IJA troops were repulsed at Taoag (PI) but headway was made and the base should fall soon.
Finally my Naval Search planes reported a hit on an enemy ship !!! This is the first one I have seen in all my games by a Japanese plane - I've seen ASW hits, but not ship hits... Hopefully the ship suffered heavy damage... But probably not..
Not much else happened this turn except for the constant air raids in Malaya and China. I plan on making a list of future operations and posting them either tonight or tomorrow.. But until then here is the AAR...

20 December
Well a kinda slow day, but a great day for the IJA Paratroopers.. After an embarrassing defeat at Keiywang and Kunming - in which dozens died and more were wounded - the 1st Paratroop Regiment has glorified its name since its day one capture of Lingayen (PI). In a raid launched in the dead of night, members of the regiment appeared in the sky over the chinese supply hub Yunan at dawn. The paratroopers landed quickly and secured the base finding little to no opposition awaiting them. The men are even now digging defenses and laying mines for the chinese counterattack upon the Burma road in Yunan. But for now the Burma road has been cut - more men and supplies are being airlifted in around the clock.
Troops in the Philippine Islands have captured the allied port of Laoag capturing several thousand Philippine soldiers. In the last allied base in northern Luzon (Aparri), a division of IJA men marched into the outskirts and reports indicate the base will fall this afternoon. Thus capturing the northern half of Luzon from the allied imperialists...
Action in china is slow along the front lines as both sides attempt to move men and material around to key locations in sufficient numbers to matter.
Also as dawn erupted over the South Pacific base of Koepang, the defenders there were surprised when they were knocked from their bunks by 16" gunfire as several IJN battleships sailed into port. The IJN TF bombarded the barracks as well as the airfields, citing numerous secondary explosions as supply and fuel depots exploded. The ships also caught an allied CL in port and after two salvoes of shells, sunk her alongside her pier. The CL Dragon is no more.
Aircraft from bases in Malaya / Burma spotted and attacked an allied TF entering Rangoon port. After several attacks, they returned claiming 1 AK sunk and several others damaged. Looks like the RN is attempting to reinforce Rangoon with supplies if not men.
The first battle damaged ships have arrived in the Home Islands and have been secured next to massive repair facilities awaiting the inevitable damage. Reports indicate that these repairs will be finished well ahead of schedule and should have the ships back in action within 2 weeks. While the ships are being repaired the crew are given a much deserved leave.
In other news, IJN Sub I-20 reported it successfully attacking a US TF and hitting a cruiser with several torpedoes. Moments later the sub transmitted a distress call - apparently it has been lost with all hands from US depth charge attacks..

21 December
Another slow naval day in the war against the western Imperialism... On the seas lots of sub action as both sides attack and mostly miss. My ASW finally caught the damn dutch sub off of Vietnam who is responsible for several lost and damaged merchies. 3 depth charges hit the sub or nearby and did enough damage the dutch sub sank with all hands... All I can say is "About time".. I've had somewhere in the vicinity of 20+ ASW ships on this sub for a couple turns now...
In what shouldn't even be called a battle, an IJN bombardment TF ran into a lone allied PT boat defending the base and with a couple AA hits and 1 single real hit (8" gun) blew the ship into pieces and continued on to carry out its mission... I was worried at first as the combat was at night and at 2000 yards... I was worried about torps.. but either the PT was out or didn't get a chance to fire.. either way I was happy.
I bombed the hell out of chinese units again this turn - the same ones as the last few turns - killing some, but mostly causing disruption in them to slow them down. I also supported my attack on Malacca (Malaya) and against some malaya base units fleeing towards Moulmein with air attacks..
My planes in Malaya also spotted and hammered a large merchie TF in Rangoon. Numerous ships were hit and probably crippled, but thats not the best part. The best part was that my zeros and oscars (yes oscars even) beat the crap out of the AVG flying CAP over Rangoon... I must have shot down roughly 15 actual fighters while losing only a couple of my own - a great trade when compared to last game where the AVG mauled me every chance it had.. Maybe this loss in planes and pilots will enable me to control the skies over Burma for a while - until Spitfires arrive that is... I don't think I have anything that can compete with them - at least not for a year or more.
On the ground my men are still getting it done... The last allied base in northern luzon fell - Aparri fell with over 700 allied prisoners... Now I will consolidate my forces and take san marcelino next.. then march on clark... I am way ahead of last game and plan to keep it this way. I am also shipping in more and more arty for the assault on clark. I will have almost twice the arty as last time, plus over a division more troops.
In Malaya I took Malacca capturing 1000 brits. Now all but Johore Bharu and singapore lie under my control in Malaya, and they will fall soon.
I took Menado (Sulewisa [sp?]) fell this turn and surprisingly the 2500 allied troops surrendered instead of retreating into the jungle. This nice bonus in points will actually make my job easier now that I don't have to chase them all over.
On Mindanao my troops took Dadjanges against no opposition. I am slowly eating up Mindanao and will soon have it all pacified.
Artilley bombardments in several chinese bases killed and wounded hundreds of chinese troops in preparation for occupation of these bases by imperial japanese troops.
Also in Burma / Malaya. The fleeing base forces from Victoria Point (I think) were run down and shock attack by an armored regiment of the japanese army and they quickly surrendered. The unit had been under constant air attack since they fled their base and finally decided they had enough and surrendered to the japanese tanks.. Time to march them off (with the other brit prisoners) to build some bridges and roads in malaya for my supply trains.... - If only we could build roads or even use POWs as forced labor like was actually done... Oh well.. probably too much of a political problem for Matrix to deal with. I can understand that... But would be neat...
All in all a good day for the Japanese Empire.. We suffered no naval losses (always a good thing) and sunk a pesky dutch sub hampering our SLOC to Malaya... Our land offensive in PI and Malaya, as well as the DEI are still ahead of schedule and going fine.
Enjoy..

Well an interesting turn to say the least. Lots of naval air action in the South Pacific as Rob shows up near Truk with 2 CVs and attacks the port, as well as a small TF nearby. Kinda funny as he was just saying that I won't see his CVs until 42 at least and here he is 120 miles SSE of Truk - hmmmm.... If only I had those BBs in port I would send them out after him, but alas I do not.. Despite his CV TF not attacking my airfield, my planes refused to launch any missions against the enemy CV TF. Also, my scouts spotted 2 CVs in the TF, but intelligence (on screen) shows an enemy TF full of CAs - how typical of my crappy intel..
His port raid netted him a single ship so far, but a lot were damaged - but thankfully Truk is a size 8 port (almost 9) and has some good inherent repair capabilities so if he leaves all of the ships will survive - they may need some yard time, but they will survive.. And since they were sitting in port, I don't really need them right now anyways - might as well give my repair mechanics some practice for when the critically needed ships start rolling in...
His TBFs were not included in the port raid but found a small TF nearby and said hi, sinking a PC and damaging 2 other ships - who's only chance is to limp back to Truk - which will give his TBFs more target practice - oh well.. maybe he'll hit and run like he usually does...
In all his CVs only claim 2 ships - could have been much worse... Now if only my naval bombers at Truk (Betties and Nells [:D]) will strike back.. I'd be happy with only a torp or two into his CVs... Not sure how he got so close without being seen, unless he used full movement and used it all up getting into range... I have several squadrons of Mavis at Truk set on naval patrol and never saw him... Just reminds you that recon is not perfect - not at all..
On better fronts... there were no sub attacks this turn - YEAH !!! I always like that news... Also Burma/Malaya based bombers were waiting for an allied TF just outside normal CAP range from rangoon and pounced.. The first raid hit a few ships, but the follow up raids did the damage and claimed 5 AKs - most likely empty, but still tonnage lost. Also in good news the escorts on these raids chewed up some more AVG planes and pilots... Another 10 or so shot down - pretty soon the AVG will be worthless - giving me supremacy over the skies in Burma...
On the ground I captured Macassar, forcing the units there to retreat into the jungle interior as well as Puerto Princesa (PI). Only a couple PI islands remain in allied hands, but they all have defenders I believe... So it will be a while before I tackle them.
Not much more to report... so here ya go..

Japanese forces CAPTURE Puerto Princesa base !!!

AMERICA STRIKES BACK AT TRUK
The War Department announced today that US Naval forces attacked Truk naval base north of Rabaul sometime this morning. Department officials said the attack was the first in the series of raids by US warships against Japanese possessions along the perimeter of the so-called Xargunite empire. Early intelligence estimates say 4 Japanese warships were sunk and at least 30 damaged inside the anchorage. US airplanes also caught a small Japanese task group outside the harbor and torpedoed 4 ships sinking at least 2. Officials refused to give out US losses but said that their fighter pilots claimed to of downed 8 to 10 Japanese fighters.
