I was always under the impression that the Navy never swallowed JFK, because he escaped being court-martialled when he lost his boat and got a medal instead...

I may be wrong, but I don't think Navy liked JFK nearly as much as they liked Nimitz, Halsey and other real sea dogs.

Not that a really dislike JFK as President (lousy personal life, but as Democratic Presidents go, really one of the best), nor do I question his service to his country or his courage . . . but . . .

That was really some trick getting a 80ft 38ton PT Boat rammed by a 378ft 2100ton destroyer. A corageous man, but not necessarily the greatest PT-Boat skipper of all time. Actually, President Kennedy probably said it best when asked how he became a war hero: "It was absolutely involuntary; they sank my boat."

I agree with you on some issues on JFK I could not care less about his personal life (he did not lie under oath) liked his tax cuts and optimism. But the Soviets thought he was weak based on Berlin Wall crisis and his Vienna Summit prompting the Cuban crisis. I also doubt he would have done anything significantly different than LBJ on Vietnam.
LBJ got a Silver Star for flying on a plane. He was a congressman then.

Master Chief, How do you feel, as a 23 year submarine veteran, about going onto a vessel designed to hunt subs? Or are the SSNs now considered to be the only sub hunters in a carrier TF?

Always been a big supporter of the total warfighting team! The Tin Can Navy's heritage is just as rich as our submarine heritage!! I'm looking forward to the challenge! Besides, I'm all for anything that hunts the "BAD GUYS" submarines regardless of platform or warefare community. Hell, if the Marines ever figure out a way to take out a KILO running on batteries, I'll give them a healthy ooh-raw and join on up!! [;)]

Have you had a chance to participate in exercises with the Upholders in RN service or as ignorantly named Canadian Victoria, Windsor, Corner Brook and Cretien's home town. Really sad naming calls as they are place names YET again.

Ask because they are supposed to be leaps and bounds ahaean of Kilos and Collins class boats in quietness.

Don't want to get to indepth on this for obvious reasons, suffice it to say that any modern conventional sub, running on batteries and operating in high background noise environments (ie littoral waters) presents a major challenge for nuc boats. This is where training and crew competance makes the difference.

Maybe we can make the U.S.S. William Clinton some kind of fleet oiler, constantly getting sucked dry by the frigates U.S.S. Lewinski and U.S.S. Paula Jones. In honor of it's role, and a great American naval hero, the Clinton will be nicknamed "the Paula Jones's John"!!!

I dont think any State has term limits on US Congressman or US Senators. Some Govenors and the President of the US have term Limits though.

As far as names go, I'd like to see a modification of the way it was (and IMO, should be)

Carriers: Named after battles
Battleships and SSBNs: Named after states
Cruisers: Named after cities
Destroyers: Named after people
Submarines (SSN): Named after fish or aquatic life.

The old ways are the best!

The harsh reality is, if you want a Senate committee to approve new ship construction, you are more likely to get the ships if the committee members have a shot (then or after they retire) at having ships named after them.

So I guess the navy would rather have the ship with a politician's name than no ship at all[:D]

This reminds me of a book I saw at my local Border's book store. In it, a US CVBG from the year 2015 travels back in time to the battle of Midway in 1942. One of the ships was the USS Hillary Rodham Clinton, which was a George W. Bush class aircraft carrier! LOL[:D]

Needless to say, I put the book down and walked away.

Guess why I haven't sent any PacWar turns in the past weeks. The LVT has arrived July 26th - it's an LVT(A)1, the variant with the gun. Kid and mother keep me well occupied when I'm home. The urge to play is painful, but 'She who must be obeyed' has become very huffy about my favorite hobby - couldn't even touch WitP for two weeks now [:(] At work, I can browse the forum, but playing is impossible. I need a different job...
