Logistics Headache - Recommended Patch

Post by velkro »

I'm on 16 Dec turn in PBEM and it didn't take long to notice that it takes FOREVER to keypunch in my Logistics needs. Is this WITP or LITP?

Let's take a walk through Utopia for a moment. Let's pretend that I'm playing the Allies and I need some logistics support for Pearl Harbor. How bout this for an idea:

1. Click on Pearl Harbor on the map.
2. A "Logistics Request" button appears on the base info display. Click it.
3. A screen pops up with list of friendly bases and what their stocks are (sortable).
4. Click "San Fran". A pop-up menu appears showing available Supply, Fuel, Oil, Resources (in blocks of 100), LCUs, & air units; and transport shipping. Click on each desired increment of log or each unit.
5. Click "Done".
6. An auto-convoy is generated with your logistics request loading up on available shipping.
7. Etc.
8. Send your turn file to your opponent three hours earlier than status quo...get some more family time...save eye damage from staring at computer...all kinds of quality of life issues can be improved...celebrate the user-friendliness of this awesome game...

We put a man on the moon thirty-five years ago. We can do this. Any programming gurus out there?

There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.

I liked that one as it shows just how far we can go ... the sad fact is that we no longer have the ability to put a man on the moon anymore. We can't even get a man into high earth orbit anymore.

Nice feature request though. [;)]

Why not just create a continuous convoy with a few transports and tankers as you get them? When you are set discontinue it.

Interface is, what it is. This may be a bit more "fixable" that the ever-present aircraft-upgrade/production/research thing, but big UI overhauls are not all that likely I would guess.

Nice UI thought though. The game is very "click" intensive and they chose to "roll their own" on GUI stuff rather than follow a WIN32 GUI standard.... So that means some getting used to time is in order as many of the WIN32 common keyboard GUI shortcuts don't seem to be there (i.e. the down arrow-Spacebar pick-list thing). They have their own keyboard shortcuts, but they are not really WIN32 UI standards, so it all takes getting used to. But after awhile, you get the hang of things pretty well.
