PTs at Pearl

Post by Gudgeon »

Looking for another bit of ahistoric fun? I sent the PT boats at Pearl after the Jap Strike fleet. The Pts lost 6 boats and sank 1 carrier and got hits on two others. Fluke? Or do PT boats have the only US torpedoes that explode in '41?

Groan! If I ever do play a PBEM game, I'm going to insist on some sort of house rule limiting the use or at least range of PT-boats. In my AI game, playing as Allies, I basically don't move them much at all.

In my game as allies vs AI japan, I have just stopped creating them.

I have sunk about 6 merchies with them (usually unescorted merchies) and damaged 3 CA's during one fight. I didn't mind the merchies, but 6 PT's vs 5 CA's (no escorting DD's), I lose one PT and moderately damage 3 Ca's isn't what I would expect irl.

If I keep playing with them, I could put some real hurt on IJN's surface forces. It's not that much fun to beat up the AI.
The older I get, the better I was.

I used the PTs at Singapore as aggressively as I could (right around Singapore). I sank a few AKs. I damaged more. I also lost PTs and eventually they got whittled down. They seemed reasonable in effect in my game (v1.21 vs AI-Hard)
