odd targeting behavior

Post by tracer »

Another v7 'oddity'in a PBEM battle:

Had a (in cover) US 3" AA whose *only* visible target was a Tiger about 12 hexes away. The gun's hit chance said 40%; I took the shot (42%, miss), and the gun's next 4 shots (also misses) were reported as 2,4,6 and 8%. The gun never took any return fire, and its supression remained at zero. I've seen similar results with other units several times recently, but chalked it up to 'seeing things' until this occurred. Has anyone else noticed this?

Perhaps recoil threw it off-target, and they had to re-acquire.

I have seen the same thing, but with 6.1. Don't remember the details.

I started a recent topic around a similar issue. You may be interested in some of the comments – could be the OP targeting which “un acquires” the previously targeted unit regardless of accepting / declining the shot. This was in 6.1, so I don’t think it actually an issue thrown up by the new version.

I fully understand op-fire; these shots were all within the *same* turn. I never switched from the firing unit, and all shots were taken with the slot-1 weapon.

Seriously; I've never seen a weapon in any SP version go from having a high hit chance to (pretty much) unacquired status without something affecting the firing unit's LOS or supression.

Has anyone noticed that the best way to protect your high-value targets (Tigers, Pattons, et al), is to surround them with trucks and jeeps?
For some reason, targetting with air almost always selects the least valuable target in the line-of-sight and line-of-approach. Veddy Irritating <img src="mad.gif" border="0">
