Ship Upgrades - When do they Occur

August 1942,

I have had the Enterprise and Lexington in Seattle and Los Angeles respectively, initially to repair damage. However both of the ships now have a SYS of 5 and 6 respectively.

Both ships are elligible for an Upgrade, and I have checked that the Upgrade toggle to YES, but for over a month now neither ship has upgraded ( basically the 12.7mm MGs should be replaced with 20mm Oerlikon ).

Both ports have repair point available over the Duability of the ships ( e.g. Seattle has 400 Ship Repair points, and the Enterprise has a durability of 80 ).

What am I missing [&:]

Did the system damage appear after it disbanded in port after the upgrade date?...if so, the system damage is representative of the upgrade being performed.

No - I sent the ships to the West Coast after they had been damaged.

Do I have to get all of the Original Damage Repaired before they will upgrade ( only asking as Enterprise has been at 5 SYS for at least 2 weeks ) ?

As soon as they repair, they will get damaged again and be upgraded if memory serves.

The upgrade is instant, it happens as soon as a ship eligible goes into a port with a repair yard *and* is not damaged.

It does not take multiple turns, you just have to meet the no damage condition.

It is the Undamaged condition that has been fooling me - Oh well will just have to wait longer.

Having just run my next turn, Enterprise has Upgraded. However there was still some original damage, SYS damage has gone from 5 ( Original Damage ) to 8 but the Equipment has changed.

Hopefully the Lexington will upgrade in a turn or two ( Sat at L.A. with 6 Sys damage )

The limit may be 5 SYS, not 0 SYS, can't honestly remember. It's basically there to prevent an upgrade from sinking your ship as the upgrade itself *adds* SYS damage.

It is probably 5 sys damage - at least my JIN ships have to be repaired to this point to get upgrades.
