Small Campaign bug

Post by Windo von Paene »

So I finished up the second mission of my WWII campaign last night, and saw some strange behavior and one outright bug.

It was advance mission number 2 for my russian force, having won a marginal in the mission 1 advance. First odd thing, many of the victory hexes were neutral "V", though not all in each bunch were. The non neutral ones in the bunches with neutrals were mine. In addition, two of the clumps were in my territory and marked as already mine. Two others were in "neutral" territory, one within about 4 hexes of my setup zone. The other was in a large clump of woods in the middle of the map.

AAR: Gerry rumbled in there with a boatload of infantry riding captured t-34s! As I had already gotten in there with infantry, it was a bloody mess for them. But I digress...

Now while the mission button in the setup screen called this an advance mission, it sure looked more like a meeting engagement type deal, given the layout of the victory hexes.

So after a Decisive Victory, I get to the campaign summary screen, the one after the battle results screen. It reads:

Decisive victories :1
Marginal Victories :2
Battles Fought :0 ???

Shouldn't that be 2?

I can't explain the fact that the campaign summary can't add. However, ALL my advance missions had some victory hexes in my area. This is a digression from the straight advance/delay format of previous SP games. Actually I like it as it makes for a more mobile and interesting game, not to mention it allows me to let the game run until I kill all the AI.

That is going to be corrected in the next patch. It is under scrutiny and testing now. That and a few other campaign problems...

Advance Missions and Meeting Engagements...

As I recall, in SP3 generated battles in a campaign used the same terminology for both an Advance Mission and a Meeting Engagement--they were both called "Advance". But when you looked at the map and the location of the Victory Hexes it became obvious whether the "Advance" referred to an actual Advance Mission or a Meeting Engagement. I submit to you that this isn't a bug, per se, but rather a holdover from the SP3 engine imported into SP:WaW. Also, it appears from the number of support points available you can tell if it's an Advance Mission or a Meeting Engagement (the fewer support points and it's a Meeting Engagement).

Well this is somewhat what I was suggesting, as it certainly looked like a meeting engagement. Although the ease with which I wiped out the Germans puzzles me a bit. They did not seem to have too many troops. Perhaps all the T-34s they were using were way expensive. they blowed up real good though when they got too close to my rifle squads though. You'd think that after seeing their comrades move into a hex and get destroyed the AI would not immediately send another one there... Oh well, their loss...

One thing that you may want to change, I was playing as the US against the germans in normandy, and I came up against a bunch of T34s!!! I think they should be area limited to the eastern front if they are even included...
