thought Tiger was tough 'til I came across Joseph Stalin 3
Continued against Soviets after war was over versus Germany. I had 3 Pershings and 2 3" AT guns firing at 1 JS 3 and just kept bouncing shells off the armor. Took 1 turn of each gun firing at least 4 shots just to disable the behemoth. Close assault with infantry disabled turret in second turn and allowed me to finally get a Pershing directly behind the monster where a 90mm shell finally brewed it up. This is going to be a long campaign if the Soviets have mass quantities of these beasts.

you mean "long long road to victory"???Originally posted by wmosner:
Might not be a campaign game. I believe it was Long Road from Utah? I am at work now and cannot remember if that is campaign or scenario.
i´m actually playing this one,too.
i made it till the ardennes right now.
can´t await to fight the red hordes...
Standard American tactics, pound them with arty until they are senseless, then run up something to finish them off. I thinks someone did the campaign with a force that turned all the units into rangers. Exp 120-130 rangers will roll right over most anything in their path.Originally posted by wmosner:
Frank knew what campaign I was in <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> . It was the Long, Long Road to Victory. Started against the French, transferred to the Western Front and then continued against the Soviets after end of war with Germany. Still don't know of way to combat Joseph Stalin 3 tanks.
thanks, John.
Actually, the JS-3 was apparently never quite battleworthy. Various mechanical problems were never solved, it's service time was short and it never saw combat. The JS-2, on the other hand, remained in russian service until 1995!
Still, a JS-3 would have made a formidable pillbox anytime.

did not find these josef tanks
cool,because of few rounds...
IS-3 has a slow reload rate (122mm gun), so after two or three shots it cannot return fire in it's heaviest form - however, the DsHK 12,7mm MG is quite a killer. What I've found useful are two medium mortars, one infantry group and one or two inf-at-teams. Also, a heavy tank is useful. Pound it with mortars and heavy tank, perhaps thus crippling it partially or at least making it routed, then attack with infantry. Since these attacks tend to fail, it is time to throw the AT-teams into the soup. If IS-3 is assaulting your forces, just throw some infantry units with sufficient AT capability in front of it. There is no tank that could survive an assault - infantry rules!
However, it is useless to pound it with small-caliber cannons - 88mmKwK43L71 or 90mm, also 128mmKwK are perhaps only weapons with decent chances in close range battles. Luckily we won't see IS-7 here.
King Tiger's tough, but it'll lose to Stalin 3. I simply regroup my defence if I see them - tanks back, infantry forwards.

b.t.w. had a great tank killing in the 5 points scen of "long, long road" these jagdtigers, you know. had 2 lucky hits by arty (155mm): 2 jagdtiger killed. other stupid one drives up the hill where he killed some inf from me,but to do this he had to turn,so he presented his side to a bazooka team, another one great german wonder weapon gone. think, this should work w/ the josef´s,too. but, they have better side armor than sturmtigers......or am i wrong
to me arty and bazookas are best tank killers

Actually it did see combat, if you want to call it that. egypt used it agaist isreal, I am at work & don't have my books, but it was in the 50 or 60's war, isreal side stepped and hit they from the side and rear. epypt used them as road blocks.Originally posted by Penetrator:

it´s a combination made by alexandra from 3 campaigns by wild bill. it starts in north africa goes to invasion of sicily and then the normandie and further fighing in western europe. the best is the hypothetic campaign against the russians in the east as last part of this package. i enjoy it so much, that i even don´t touch "lost victories" before i ended this one.
good job by bill wilder and alex....
and yes, there are some surprises,at least germans counterattack positions that you thought have always save w/ those panthers and even heavier stuff. try it.
Ah, yes. Memory failed me this time. Even captured and upgraded by Israel.Originally posted by Don Doom:

Are you sure it was the JS3 and not the later T-10 series?Originally posted by Don Doom:

(1956 war, the Isrealis found that they had trouble touching them with the 75mm on their AMX-13s, IIRC)
check this site http://history.vif2.ru/is3.html it has some good pictures of the JS-3 and claims there is no verification of it having fought against the Japanese.Originally posted by James Coscinu:
Didn't IS-3 serve in the Soviet attack against the Japanese at the very end of the war? Thought so - correct me or give me some clues.

after 3rd try i got a good marginal (v. 6.1)Originally posted by Bradock78436:
I'm playing that same campaign.. Am I the only one that had a draw at marroco? Pretty tough, those PZ3's killed me.
those airplanes disturbed me most, but the solution is to spread out your forces far,so
that the damage from the bombs to nearby hexes is minimized......
later in this camp you will face hordes of SS,jagdtigers and panthers. nice... last german battle seems a little bit dificult, only 350 support points, but i will manage that, too and kick the russians in the *** <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">
