Uncle Buck and HARD_Sarge Co-Op game

Post by Hard Sarge »

me and UB have been playing a Co-op game, trying out the 1945-46 campaign (to get the feel of this style game)

over all been pretty fun, UB is the Allies and has controll of Southwest Pac and South Pac, I have the rest of the US and the SU if they come into the game

at the end of the first month of action, here are some numbers

we have lost 35 ships (lots of PT scouting boats and SC's have been lost) to the IJN 200 (FOW is on) of these, 2 CV's, 2 CVL's and 2 BB's have been reported sunk

(funny, one turn spotted the Yamato coming out of port north and sighted it in a TF south on the same day !, then lost it, about a week later a attack on Truk found it again, it has taken a lot of bomb hits, but nothing major, it has set sail finally, but my Trop bombers missed)

troop losses are 309 Allied to 473 IJA, UB has been running wild in PI/NG, the AI has been doing some major damage in China

air losses has been shocking

293 Allied planes lost in combat, to 3228
4 Allied planes lost on the ground to 1151
195 Allied planes lost to flak, to 140
468 lost to Opp loss, to 275

so overall, 960 Allied planes for 4794 JP

UB has the top pilot on the list with 19 kills, I have 2 pilots not on the list, with 28 and 23 kills, with a 3rd pilot who was just KIA with 21, all 3 from VFN-90

Stat Damage is at 1124

over all score
25520 Allied to 32872

So far I have ot seen teh AI do anything Stupid. No mad rushes to defend nothing areas, no repeated attacks on CV groups without aircover.

I decided to cancel teh Invasion of Luzon and take all of teh lesser Islands in teh P.I. to isolate Japan from DEI. Sarge was workign north and has everything from Formosa to Japan sealed. I am just using medium and heavy bombers to strike targets in P.I. and wearing them down.

So Far I have taken all of NG save, Wewak, Sorong, and Ambonia. I have an atack headed in to Mankowi in a few days, loading up now. Timor has been attacked and I took Dili. I really abused eh pooch on this invasion and took many more losses than I should have as well as a prolonged battel with the Base Force. However Dili is now mine, and Lautem is next. I have taken back Miri, Brunei, Jessleton, and Sankow (SP?) on Borneo, as well as Puerta Princesesa and Tay Tay. Bacolod is in my possesion as well as Caygan and teh small base next to it on teh north coast of Mindinao. Davo is a deth trap and is being used as a training gorund for my squadrons. Jolo, is in deep trouble, it is isolated and is raided often by both Bombardment groups and Bombers.

As Sarge said China is a mess. IJA have run wild, and I have been bitten by the Pursue bug. I lost a battel at Kwyaing and in 3 days the Japanese were able to engage and pursue my troops all teh way back to Ichang, a trip that had taken one of my ground units 4 weeks to make. They did in 3 days. they are now reciving the individed attention of nearly the entire CHinese AF and have stopped the deliberate attack and moved to bombarding my positions.

India, is just a big Stale Mate. Distance and time to march is just forcing me to hold while forces come forward. Mitchyna has been under siege for a month, but teh JP are takng the worst of it. In the past week the attacks have been severe but I have still managed to increase my fort level.

All ih all the Co-op game seems to be working out pretty well. I have all teh backwaters and Sarge is going in the front door.

Oh and my resoning for not invading Luzon was that since CENPAC already ahd the Marians secured, more fields for B-29's were not required, and takign the resources away from Japan would ahve a more strategic effect n Japan. The subs have done a great job, but it is even better if the ships have nothing to transport.

Well this is the big one, the Marine Corps is going to land on Iwo tonight

383 ships in the strike force, and over 96000 troops (not counting the 60 plus ships in the CV blocking forces, or the number of subs that have cut off Iwo from outside aid)

besides the air power from the CV's there are 16 BG's of B-29's and 2 BG's of 24's helping out, along with the bombardment group

(of course, UB has most of the BB's)

I think it is a fair trade you ahve all the CV's

Other than the Brit BB's I only have 5 BB's and 4 CA's.

and I got 3 BB's :(

then again, not talking about the BB's that are in my CV fleets

besides, my CV's do what I tell them to, not like yours do :)

the first night of the landings went pretty well, looks like close to 60000 men made it ashore

the bad guys tried a bombardment attack, adding another 41 troops to the list

the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Mar Divs have landed along with the 3rd and 4th Raiders and the 3rd and 4th Paras, leading the way was the 1st Mar Amv, the Vth Amv HQ is pleased with the landing so far

the USAAF decided to throw in a little support for a change

the Airfield and port on Iwo have fallen, at least the Marines think they have fallen, according to the maps, this is where they should be, but after the air raid yesterday, there is nothing but a big hole where the field and port should of been

so far, only one POW has been taken, a highly upset Eng Major, all they can get out of him is something about, do we know how long it took to get those 3 Bulldozers to this island, and then once they were uncrated and filled with gas, the Dragon planes come over, and now he can't find them

well, it is now 3-5-45
so time for a update

in some ways, not as bloody as the first, but in others, it seems bloodyer

air to air losses

283 vs 1410 (very sharp drop off)

on the ground

1 vs 621 (again a drop)

to Flak

173 vs 98 (seeing a pattern here)

Opp losses

388 vs 208 (dang)

for a monthly total of 845 vs 2331 (our losses about the same, the JP cut in half)

(bad weather, setting up attacks, we not doing as well)

we lost 54 ships (lots of Landing craft types) vs 235, still only show 2 CV, 2 CVL and 2 BB's, add in 2 CA's this time around

(believe the losses are much worse)

total, of 89 for us to 435 for him/it

troops losses of 391 vs 445

Stat score a big jump of 3122

score now 33496 vs 35459

UB's top Squadron/FG is a Thunderbolt FG based in PI, with 252 kills, top Aces is UB's with 23

my top Squadron is VFN-90, based on the Big E, with 297 kills, with Aces of 29, 24 and 20 kills (with the KIA Ace with 21)

Iwo has fallen, and my Raiders just took Tori Shimi, which if it can get a field built on it, will be a major gain

I think the Raising Sun, has set

the Invasion of tarankan is faltered. After Landing nearly 12,000 troops in the intial phase the Japanese defenders counter attacked with a massive BANZAI charge and drove the landing forces into teh jungle. The Heavy Cruisers assigned to the Landing force kept the coastal guns quiet, and even with there supporting fire the Japanese counter attack was successful. the Japanese suffered very haeavey casualties. the Offloading of troops is continuing and there will be a march to Tarankan from our new beach head. Heavy Bombers of SWPAC and Gerneral Kenny's 5th AF is softening up the target. the Heavy Bombardment group around teh Battle ships California is retireing to Maratoi for re-arming and will begin routine bombardment missions to Tarankan, and Balikapapan. The Saratoga CV group will remain on scene to provide CAP protection and keep any ships in the area from re-enforcing Tarankan. Several artillery units in Darwin that were slated for Operation SHutdown (Assualt on Kendari and Ambonia) have been placed on alert and are preparing for embarkation to support teh Assault of Tarankan.

There is a large supply convoy headed to Brunei to allow for bombers to have a short hop to Tarankan. Search planes from Brunei have in the past two weeks found no Japanese shipping in the China Sea.

Lautem on Timor has fallen to asault and the defenders have been killed to a man. The last to succomb was part of teh Base Force and was askign if we had seen his Bulldozers. In a moment of Compasion we let him watch teh 5 CB battalions roll past in there Dozers.

Koepang is still in Enemy hands but has been cut off from supply for quite some time. Lautem is being built to a larger base and when completed the training force at Darwin will move there and begin training attacks on Kopang and the est. 30K troops.

High Command is looking at a possible blocking force to be sent to both Mackassar and Tiljlapt, to close the southern DEI. The Mackasser force woudl also be in position to give Kendari air support, as well as threaten Balikapan.
