I was securing Noth West Hill early on and managed to
also hold Heartbreak Ridge until reinforcements arrived
and I had allied troops trying in vain to take that
objective against my defenses.
In the course of day 2 I put a tank batallion east
of Ede and cut off the flowing in forces of the allied.
I was able to force the remaining allies out of Ede
also taking that objective.
At that point I was quite sure that the enemy would
have setup good defenses west of Otterloo Woods and
Reemst Veld since they had withdrawn from the other
objectives.
That's the point where I wonder what the reason behind
the AI's choices are here. Reems Veld was completely
undefended as I discovered at end of day 3 (leaving
it to me to take).
Advancing on Otterloo Woods with only a couple of
batallions finally the time ran out and the review (see
screenshots) revealed that all remaining allies (20.000
personnel) where holding the line south of that objective.
I would have expected these alternatives:
+ the allies try to hold Reems Veld waiting for me to
throw forces at them there before trying to take back
(e.g.) Heartbreak Hill
+ the allies try to probe into North West Hill from
the north (which the AI didn't try at all this
time around)
+ the allies setup their final defenses of
objective Otterloo Woods further south and west to avoid
losses in case of shelling
+ the allies give up seeing that they won't achieve victory
Any thoughts about that massing behavior of the AI in
the north-east (see pictures)?
Cheers
Nils
