Milo I found something wierd with respect to weapons

Post by DamoclesX »

Okay, below are a bunch of shots, bascially I was testing the weapons on one of my ships and I noticed something.

If I point the guns at the hyperion and fire the SECOND I press the trigger the hull flashes like it has been hit, this is something I have noticed for a while, and something that has always made it feel... wrong.. like the bolts just hit the hull instantly,

now I know whats up.

IF I point the bolts, JUST enough away from the hull they wont impact but still fly nearly the same path you see them fly from the gun and onward, but if I point them at the hull its an instant hit, to make it even more interesting, I managed to manovour so only 1 gun would hit the hull and the other pass by, the result, the gun pointed at the hull caused an INSTANT hit even BEFORE the other guns bolt had reached that point, its like the gam eis second guessing or greatly boosting that bolts speed

I think they should be changed, this is something that has always felt wrong to me when I attack cap ships, it feels like i"m shooting invisible bolts from the fighters when I get closer and really feels ... wrong, I ve even slowed the bolts down to 2000 to try to fix this, but now I see why I cant lol.

I posted some pics of it, if you want I can zip up the hyperion and sentri I used in this test so you can try what I attempted to explain here and see it for yourself.

Thanks

Yes, it's true - he's taking a well-deserved week long vacation with his family. Er, I mean... We tried to stop it, but our enforcers arrived at the airport just a few minutes too late. We're tracking him down now, I anticipate we'll have him found and back at his computer in seven days or less. [;)]

We also have a 4.0.3 patch that we're testing, which will with any luck be released once John returns.

Are you allowed to share what bug fixes are in 4.0.3, or would the enforcers go after you too?

Please note these haven't all been confirmed yet, but here's the key list:

34. Fixed a CTD when exiting mission with fighter on runway
35. Fixed a CTD associated with ship destruction during battle
36. Fixed a rare CTD associated with certain save games
37. Fixed fighter AI landing behavior
38. Fixed campaign duplication when deploying empty mods
39. Fixed system override function in engineering screen
40. Improved strike fighter targeting of enemy starships

For those with landing problems / fighter landing casualties, this build should greatly lessen or eliminate that issue.

Hi Damo,

I am unable to reproduce this problem using a standard Thunderbolt shooting against a Vendetta heavy cruiser. Do you know if the problem is unique to the Hyperion as a target, or to the weapons on that Centauri fighter, or.... well, anything?

I honestly can't think of a reason for it to behave the way you are describing it. There isn't any kind of prediction used in determining weapon hits - it's more like the other way around. On each frame, the simulation engine checks to see if any shot passed through the same volume as a ship/debris/drone since the previous frame. Beam weapons are handled a bit differently, but this is a bolt you're talking about, right?

Sorry...

ya a bolt

I tryed the same thing to... I thought it might be cause my weapons move a lot slower then yours(4000) or so.

I should have the mod ready for release really soon(a day or two) so you can grab the thing and have a look for yourself, hopefully its not an issue with my rig, I have a few odd ones(like those lines ships leave behind not getting erased and being there as black lines next time I play the mission)

thanks for looking into it
