Help with Editor Please!

Post by Captain Scarlet »

Hi Guys,

Could somone please give me some idea, of how to use the game editor? [&o]

I want to edit, the whole war scenario, to give Japan a better start, by just moving units from one TF or base, to another TF or base, how do I do this? [&:]

I have read the manual, but I cannot see anything apart from creating new units, or editing ones already in the scenario, but am a new at this kind of thing. [&:]

How do I create, a new TF from units already in the scenario without, duplicating that unit?

Sorry, if this seems a bit simple for you guys, but like I said, am new to this sort of editing, Am used to the click and move sort of thing. [:)]

To get you started here is what you need to do

open scenario editor and load scenario 15 or 16
select save as and save into a slot below 25 and add a name for the scenario

Next open data base editor and open the same scenario either 15 or 16
select save as and save into the same slot that you saved the scenario file.

Now open the data base editor and load the new scenario files.

The data bases are as follows
Device, is where you enter data for all weapons in the game
Class, is where you specify ship class information guns armor etc.
Ship, is where you specify imformation for the individual ships and also where you set their locations
Aircraft. is where you define aircraft capabilities
Air Group, is where you create the actual groups in the game size type of aircraft upgrades and location
Location, is where you set all the information relating to bases production oil fuel resources supply HQ, LCU and also set ship Task forces
Pilots is your list of pilots
Leaders is you list of leaders for LCUs and ships

Once we get the patch done I plan to spend more time here trying to answer questions about the editor and building scenarios. Not allot of time for that right now but after the patch I should have time to answer questions and maybe even paly a game or two...

Captain Scarlet,

To change where a unit starts the scenario you need to edit its location. As an example, lets say you want to edit which ships are part of the IJN Pearl Harbor strike force (TF 1). This task force is located under locations in slot 3501. So any ships you want to be part of this TF would have its location (edit the field named Near) set to 3501. Note: make sure any ships added to a TF have a delay of less than the start date of the scenario. To change the location of the IJN TF 1 just go to slot 3501 (under locations) and edit its location, make sure you use a base for its location and an HQ or LCU.

As a rule of thumb the following apply for units starting on the map at scenario start:

Ships: location should either be a port or a TF.
Air Groups: location should either be a ship or base.
HQ & LCU: location should either be a base or a transport TF (make sure the TF has enough capacity to carry the unit).
TF: location can be any sea hex or port.

BTW if you have a spread sheet program capable of importing and exporting csv formated data files you might want to take a look at michaelm's witpload program. It can be downloaded from Spooky's UV & WitP Fan site located at http://mathubert.free.fr/

I hope I've been able to answer you're questions clearly.
