Ouch...

IJN subs attack 16 Fletcher-class DDs on transit to Eniwetok I., hitting one and being hit back in process. Well, better them than BB and CL also in transit without DD escort...
Kuching is invaded and captured by Brits !!!
Timor is invaded by combined Australian/Dutch force, but it doesn't fall...

Mitcher gets into carrier battle with IJN near Pagan !!
IJN uses new weapon, Kamikaze attacks !!
Mitcher makes total mess out of his attack, no hits on IJN ships... they had 4 CV TF ripe for picking !!
Despite heavy flak from no less than 4 CLAA and other escorts plus carriers themselves (5900+ flak value) which claims most of the downed 150+ Japanese planes, CV Wasp is heavily damaged (71 dam) and CVL Independence is sunk. !!

Oosthaven is invaded by troops marching from Palembang.

Cheers,

M.S.

Land combat in China sucks for Allied...as usual.
Tinian doesn't fall even with 2 additional divisions sent in...

8/28/1944

Battles in Timor, Palau and Tinian continue.
Mitcher's CV TF is disbanded in Eniwetok I...US is now short of one fleet carrier to make proper CV TF.
Haiphong is amphibiously invaded and captured by Brits !!!

9/4/1944

Oosthaven is captured !!!
Brit CVs raid Hainan, sinking 2 previously damaged CAs and 5 CDs.
Few CDs and APs are sunk by US LBA near Tinian.

9/11/1944

Japanese are eliminated in Palau !!
One IJN CD, trying to escape Tinian, is attacked by 160 US carrier planes...talk about overkill...
Timor is captured !!!
Tinian is captured !!!

9/18/1944

Miri is invaded by land march from Kuching..and is captured !!!
Black Widow group doesn't seem to get replacement planes despite them being in pool...changed to P-38J.
IJN CVE is hit by LBA near Miri.
Japanese are eliminated in Oosthaven !!

Since Japanese points are under 70 000 and Allied have already 131 000, end of war is in sight.

Cheers,

M.S.

Zhanjiang is invaded by land from Haiphong !!
Japanese in Tinian are eliminated !!
Halmahara is amphibiously invaded and captured !!!

10/2/1944

Tarakan is invaded from Miri !!
Zhanjiang is captured !!!
Guam is amphibiously invaded, but doesn't fall yet...seems to be heavily defended...

10/9/1944

All available US CVs and BB groups are sent to support the battle raging in Guam.
Tarakan is captured !!!
Morotai is captured !!!
Batavia is amphibiously invaded, but seems to be heavily defended too...
NFG group is changed back to P-61 Black Widows...they don't take replacements much, but that is probably a supply issue.

10/16/1944

CV Randolph arrives and will reinforce Cent/SouthPac drive into Guam.
Japanese who were caught between Merrill's Rgt, Mars Brigade and various Chinese armies and Brit invasio are eliminated in Zhanjiang !!
Total of 7 US divisions have landed on Guam..and capture it !!!

10/23/1944

Japanese are eliminated in Timor !!

Cheers,

Checked with Gedit:

IJN lost following CV/CVLs: Soryu, Hiyo, Ruyjo, Shoho, Zuiho

USN/Allied lost CV Enterprise and CVL Independence...CV Wasp and CV Yorktown were very close to sink.

Some other thoughts:

That was so far the fastest victory with playing Allied against Japanese AI. Last one did end in January 1945.
I made early mistake to try to oppose IJA attack on Andaman I., which lost me a division. IJA/IJN was quite decently agressive and I was able to contain IJA into Mandalay only with luck..even against AI. Human might have taken whole Burma.
Interesting carrier battles, since Brits ended up sinking most of the carriers, after they hand been damaged in battles against US LBA.
Mitcher was unlucky to get only kamikaze attack in war (at least I didn't notice others) which lost him CVL Independence and CV Wasp was docked in Truk to the end of war.

Japanese AI would sure need some additional help in garrisoning etc, since many bases are undefended. Even additional garrison battaillon would cause delays in Allied campaign. Papua-New Guinea's northern coast is trouble for AI, since it didn't even try to capture it.

One thing that is effective against AI is late war US carrier TF type I call "Death Star"..6000+ flak and 3 CV + 2 CVL. Here's example of Spruance's:

Carrier TF's

Post by Capt. Harlock »

That's an impressive line-up. I assume that's for later in the war when the US gets a CV coordination bonus. Also, I like to use more "Cleveland" class CL's, and some CLAA's, so that only the bottom row has the DD's.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

RE: Carrier TF's

Yep, without coordination bonus it can be lot less useful. And I think there was bonus both on strikes and CAP. But with good leader like Halsey (rated 9 air, 9 agressiveness) or Mitcher it can work in early war too.
And in 1942-43 it's more about survival than striking...and I think CAP penalty was not so severe to restrict number of carriers.

There are never enough CLAAs...so had to do with substitutions [:)]. I had 4 CLAAs in one CV TFs, but was still only just under 6000 flak value [:)].
South Dakota/Iowa class BBs have also impressive AA armament. No use to put those 21 knot old battlewagons into CV TFs, though, way too slow.

Cheers,

M.S.
