Screen shots?

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Screen shots?

Post by Colonel Klink »

I've tried to take a few screenshots using different windows programs. The first was a graphics program called paint shop pro and the other was the ole' printscreen windows function. (paste in paint).
Both methods result in very messy color schemes: (see below)

Now the strange thing is that when i took a screenshot of the credits rolling, the colors were perfectly fine. I saw the screen resolution change in the manual to 800x600 but was curious if there is a #of color preference. ( i tried using 256, 16 and 32 bit) with the same results.

The game changes the amount of colors used & your screen resolution so that regardless of any changes you make while you are outside of the game in Windows, the game will load the preset colors & resolution. That is probably why the screenshot colors didn't work well. Maybe that old screenshot program for the SP1-3 series would work on SPWAW?
Here is the only link i could find but don't blame me if it does not work. Also save your game first Image

Uh, never mind. I made a batch file that loaded up the DOS based SPCAP screensaver prog and then SPWAW, and that all worked fine. It sounded like the HD was doing it's little capture work everytime I hit the ` key, but after exiting the game no screenshots. I'm also not 100% sure about the SPWAW default screen colors thing, though I think that may still be the case. Maybe someone else has idea's. Since this is a Windows based game now maybe there are some windows screenshot capture utils others have used that worked?

A good program that will capture some excellent screen shots is hypersnap.

I usually take them with this program, then transfer the file to PSP for some fine tuning.

The print screen function does not work well at all with SPWAW. But there are other ways (G)...WB

I work with PSP 6.02 and have been doing rather nice screenshots. Image Make sure you're using the latest version (6.02).
I'm also using Win2K. It seems everything runs better in Win2K...

Runs very well - as Close Combat III and East Front (original version) also do. I even run TANKS! in Win2K (but with no sound)...

I've experienced an occasional problem: sometimes the screen turns black and then, as you move the mouse, the SPWaW game screen gradually reappears, following the movement of the mouse (it's kinda painting a picture) but this occurred VERY RARELY.When that happened I saved my work, exited the game end restarted it. No rebooting needed - this is Win2K!

I've reduced the video card's hardware acceleration and tuned the monitor's refreshing frequency to 72 Hertz and this problem didn't happen till now...So it might be an adjustment problem within my system only.

But maybe you can mention it to the programming staff, since it can also be a minor bug...

However, Ive found SPWaW very stable. I've worked on it for hours and it always worked without any problems. Never had a crash running it under Win2K!

My wife also plays SPWaw for hours in her Win98 machine -and she never had one crash, either.

Best regards,

Fabio.
