Mogami PBEM song (Woody Woodpecker Song)

Ho ho ho ho ho
Ho ho ho ho ho
That's the Mogami Play-by-email song
Ho ho ho ho ho
Ho ho ho ho ho
He's playing it all day long
He plays a few turns in a day to see
If the guys got a real life
And it's nothing to him, on the tiniest whim
To get you in bad with your wife ("just on more turn dear")
Ho ho ho ho ho
Ho ho ho ho ho
That's the Mogami Play-by-Email tune
Ho ho ho ho ho
Ho ho ho ho ho
Makes the other Play-by-emailers swoon
Though it doesn't make sense to the dull and the dense
Why all the Japanese Play-by-emailer long
For ho ho ho ho ho
Ho ho ho ho ho
That's the Mogami Play-by-email song
He he he he he

Hi, It can work, from my Allied PBEM game. I had thrown back a Japanese landing at Legaspi in Luzon. The Japanese had captured the base and I recaptured it but had not finished off the Japanese unit. I knew the Japanese would either come to reinforce or withdraw so I had been moving in stages toward there.
Then Japanese landings began at Menado with my TF's in range. I ordered a change of course.
The resulting night battle saw the Japanese lose 1 CA and at least 4 DD with another CA a CL and DD's damaged.

The Long Lance did serious damage to several Allied CL but so far they are all still afloat.

That hurt. :( I came in expecting PT boats, and got a major SAG. So as per your model, 4 DD's went in with a small group of Claudes on Naval attack at 100 feet. Not only did you catch that group, but you shot up the flight of Claudes that I had set to 100 feet / Naval strike in anticipation of PT boats... I was pretty bummed that the LL's weren't targeted on PoW. At least I put some CL's out of action for a bit. The only saving grace was that I "surprised" you and got off some rounds that dinged up your forces. It could have been worse if I hadn't gotten a bit of a jump on you.

I kinda wondered if you'd gotten a sniff of those forces earlier since I would not have expected the attack that soon. Now I know that they diverted from Legaspi...

Hi, As Allies my forces kind of hang out at the edge of Japanese air range looking for easy targets to jump. I don't expect major battles or major victories. The Allied ship crews and captains and TF leaders are all too inexperianced. Jumping a lone AP here or there can make a difference 10 months from now one night off Lunga........ That TF was just a little bit more then I really wanted but I'll take the result. (POW is 81 at night now)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nells hit Singapore, blow up stuff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bettys Night Air attack on Manila; Allied PG Asheville, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allied Surface TF of 5 Cruisers and 5 DDs goes to Wake to lob shells onto the Japs, surprises a supply TF, and bravely runs away; Japanese CL Katori, Shell hits 2

They then procede to chop up the airfield. 2 DDs and CL Raleigh are holed in the exchange.

During the USN retirement, a Japanese Sub puts a fish into DD Phelps, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground forces CAPTURE Puerto Princesa and Tacloban

I'm really ticked at my TF Commander at Wake for not pressing his advantage. I'll have to look at that.

I think the combination of mission + poossy TF Leader + low crew experience = bravely run away away

By now, most of you are wondering, "Where are DadMan's Carriers?". The answer to that is quite simple - hiding... and waiting.

I know Mogami is not going to waste the fuel to hunt me down, but he will dash to the attack if he sees me acting recklessly with them. He taught me that lesson back in our Uncommon Valor days a couple of years ago... We know each other's strategies fairly well by now, and playing the Japanese always suited my aggressive tendancies well.

How long can I continue to leash my puppies before they grow into dogs?

Hi, All things considered they did a rather good job of trashing Wake before they left. I thought the little aircraft present icon would at least scare you a little. Duh what was that you were saying about me knowing you?

Sniff Sniff after I stayed up all night taunting you , you didn't even mention my songs. I kind of liked "My Favorite things"

I considered it, but then I thought of a scene from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan -

This exchange between Admiral Kirk and Dr. McCoy after the Kobayashi Maru simulation wrecked the simulator sums it up:

McCoy: "What about my performance?"
Kirk: "I'm not a drama critic."

Japanese G3M Nell Night Air attack on Singapore. Night fighters fail to intecept them again, so apparently, they would be better served being led by Ralph the Wonder Llama...

Allied Sub KXVII attacks Japanese DDs near Kompong Trach. For her trouble, she is attacked 3 times and is lost with all hands...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allied Day Air attack on Japanese TF, near Sandakan AP Toyo Maru #2, Bomb hits 1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground Assault continues at Alor Star and Malacca

Japanese Ground forces CAPTURE Morotai

Backchannel email exchange between Commanders-
DadMan to Mogami:
"Sending a TF from SF to Oz or SoPac still routes too damn close to the Marshall Islands, and sometimes even through the Gilberts!"

Mogami to DadMan:
"Yep it is a pain to have to route those TF yourself. If I was you I'd just take the Marshall and Gilbert chain so I could save a few seconds. "

DadMan to Mogami:
"Oh sure. What would I hold them with, sticks, stones, and bananas? You cheeky blighter. "

Allied Sub KXVII should have realized that the DD it torpedoed the day before was part of ASW TF sent to that location after air search spotted it and gotten the heck out of Dodge.

Dutch SubCom would have had to have been bright enough to figure that out.

Hi, If I was you I would outlaw crack smoking by Dutch submarine skippers. He needed someone off the submarine to say "Just torpedoed enemy DD. You are in enemy port. Maybe you should amscray"

(I forget to move submarines a lot myself) (Need a shoot and scoot rule. Submarine fires at or is attacked by enemy TF it moves for 3 days away from location.)

Was the last thing your sonar man heard (before the breaking up noises) sound something like, "Pass the dutchie on the left hand side..."? Maybe it was crewed by the Jamaican Bobsled Team... Or Captained by former Miami Dolphin running back Ricky "Weed" Williams...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Sub attacks MSW Tern about 300nm W of SF. She survives the Pearl Harbor attack, only to be nailed by a sub.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Sub attacks DD Van Ghent 60nm WSW of Jolo and sinks her with 2 torps.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese G3M Nell Day Air Allied attack on DD Van Nes 120nm WSW of Jolo. 1 torp finishes her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allied Martin 139 Day Air attack on Japanese TF MSW Tomozono Maru #3 near Tawi Tawi. They plaster her with 3 bombs and put her away.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allied Sub Spearfish attacks near Morotai. Second time in 2 days. Torps go thud (duds). Damned Mk XIV torps...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allied ASW attack on Japanese sub 300nm WSW of San Francisco in retalliation for sinking MSW Tern. No Result.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground forces CAPTURE Jolo and Alor Star

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground troops begin assault on Clark Field

1600 Japanese casualties reported (Hee Hee Hee, I had a little surprise waiting for him.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground troops continue assault on Malacca. Two more days the city will fall.

A Japanese assault on Ambonia in NW New Guinea is about to begin. Mogami has been pounding the place for 2 days now with a 6 CA/CL 6 DD TF. He was going to land last night, but saw a powerful Allied Surface Group approaching, and decided to wait for reinforcements. So, he knows I'm lurking, just waiting to pounce on a mistake, or to make one of my own (which I think I'm way overdue for).

He's got to be wondering what I'm up to...

Hi, What was the surprise at Clark? (I have been flying recon twice a day for weeks. There was no surprise. The attack failed, so what? another will be ordered when I'm ready)

I spend very little time wondering what Dadman is up to. I'd go crazy. Either I am prepared or I am not. If I am it won't hurt me. If I'm not I'll deal with it when the time comes.

Gray skies are gonna to clear up
Put on a happy face
Brush off the clouds and cheer up
Put on a happy face

Take off that gloomy mask of tragedy, it's not your style
You'd look so good that you'd be glad you decided to smile

Pick out a pleasant outlook
Stick out that noble chin
Wipe off that full of doubt look
Slap on a happy grin

And to spread The Rising Sun all over the place
I Just, put on a happy face

Put on a happy face
Put on a happy face

And if you're feeling cross and sad
Don't sit and whine
Think of air raids and bomb Dad
And you'll feel fine

I knew a Dadman so gloomy
He'd never laugh or sing
He wouldn't listen to me
Now he's a mean ol' thing

So to spread the Rising Sun all over the place
I Just, put on a happy face
