Airborne question

Post by geozero »

I saw in one of Oleg's screenshot a parachute soldier, so I'm assuming that there are airborne units. How do these play out in the game? Do they move farther (assuming they have transports)??? Are they considered "light" infantry? What are the pros and cons to developing these and using them?

Since all nations under WA use the same weapons, etc. does that mean that China will be able to have airborne infantry units?

China is a separate playable side. I think that them not having access to paratroopers is another good reason for them not being grouped with the WA.

My bad. I thought China was grouped with the WA.

Thanks for the clarification.

No it's like this...

There are certain production limitations. Paras can be produced only by selected countries. Note I said "countries" not "sides".

So for example, German player can produce Para units in Germany proper, but he can't produce Paras in Romania or Hungary etc. even though Romania is controlled by German side. China can't produce Paras at all (China has pretty basic production capabilities anyway.) WA can produce Paras in UK and US, but can't produce them in India (I'm not sure about Canada and Australia but I guess not).

Paras do have some special rules but are too complicated to explain in full. Lets just say they reduce defensive fire vs. invasions (what I call "Pegasus bridge" rule). They can be dropped in enemy's back using a Heavy air unit. In that case, they depend on Heavy air unit's range (half of that range is where they can be dropped).
