Anyone has this problem...?

Post by esq »

Hi!

I have this rather annoying problem. It all started after a while of installation. I´ve played pretty long way a solitary play at the africa. Now suddenly as I try to fire artillery or tanks on enemy, the Steel Panther game shuts down *aargh* It does that even when I begin a new game. [&:][:(]

All the help is really much appriciated!!! [&o]

I have never faced this kind of problem playing MC Desert Fox. But I must confess that I have played this MC a long time ago with SPWAW v.5.0.

So maybe it is a known issue playing this MC with the last version of SPWAW 8.2. Just a thought.
Sorry I can not really help you.

esq: Try deleting the steel.prf file in your SAVE folder and restart the game, reset your preferences. Also shut down anything you have running in the background, ie: virus checkers, phone alerts, etc. HTH Good Luck

Ok.. Deleting the steel.prf -file helped for a while. It let´s me fire few units and move couple tanks. Then if I try to move units or fire it shuts down again... Geesh. This is more complicated than I thought at first.

More suggestions?[:(]

I´ve installed the latest version of steel panthers(8.2) but this occurred already at the 8.02 version also.

Win XP (SP1), athlon XP 2700 with 2 Gb memory and radeon 9500 pro. So it isnt the computer (Unless some other program causes this *sigh*)

All the help is very much apreciated [&o]

Shutting down background programs is always worth a try. Also start the game via 'quick start' (mech.exe)

I've been playing MC Desert Fox now for a long time through many versions and on several PCs and I've not seen this problem. If deleting the steel.prf file doesn't do it and you are not running any strange things in the background (I keep my CPU off line when I'm playing solo but I don't need to turn off AntiVirus or anything like that), then make sure you have the latest version of DirectX.

Hi!

The scenario is quite big but the problem persist even in small scenarios. So that cant be the reason.[:(]

I re-installed the game and I was able to play few rounds and then the same sympton came back. *aargh*. I also have tried at the very beginning starting the game from mech.exe. Not much help yet, but I´m still hopeful[;)]

I´ll try to shutdown all the backgroung programs..

All ideas are more than wellcome [&o]

Thanx for the advice but the problem persist. [&:]

If I start the game and play the first turn (From the last save), it gets to certain point and then the graphics get inverted and the boot to the windows. I´m not sure but could this be a graphic card issue (I have Hercules radeon 9500 pro with 128 Mb)? I just cant believe that the game would "eat" all the memory (I´ve 2,5 gigas 300 mhz ddr memory).

I´d upload the save game file but it would be 2 megas *dou* And I cannot fit it to 200 kb what ever i´d try [:D] *thinking* Would just the dat -file be enough or would I have to upload all three fiile (dat, cmt and the third file?). I´m just dying in curiosity that if this is just a hardware issue...

esq, can you send me your save file? Put the following from your mega cam save folder into a zip and I´ll have a look: the particular *.cam and *.sav
You DON`T need to include the *.rec file, which at times grows pretty large. It only contains the RECorded actions of your and the enemies units from the previous turn. I don´t need that for a checkout.

send here: harizan@web.de

and/or attach it to your next posting in this thread. Take note, you CAN´T attach ZIP extension files here, but you can´rename the *.zip file containing your save game files (x2) to have a legal extension like *.jpg That should work for the purpose (hopefully, just found out renamed to *txt corrupts the download. odd!).

That enables other people willing to help checking out your save file and thus getting you back into the desert quickly!
