My "static" Canton Base Force moved...

Post by Oznoyng »

to 43,40... Any suggestions on how to get it to move back? I *think* it moved because of an attack all/follow command plus an all follow... but I am not sure. I *think* that between me and Mogami, we can get several save turns.

Please list *exactly* the orders given.

I can't get it to happen with either Set All To March or Set All To Follow

Were all the 5" CD guns disabled possibly?

Just trying to think through the logic of what would let it move. The unit itself is not Static, just the CD guns so it is possible that loss of the guns might free it up.

(I assume we are talking about Canton Base Force)

I've had the same bug happen, Don't have the saves anymore. Mine happened with the Set All to Follow command, Told everything to follow one of the artillery units and the Canton Base Force followed. I do remember that the CD guns were still worked. Just couldn't get the unit to move back to Canton. Tried to have it follow another unit back and it wouldn't. Didn't even notice when it happend till I was ready to move the stack to attack the Chinese at the base. Wanted to leave a unit to block the crossroad. Just didn't plan on the Canton Base Unit to be the one left behind.

I edited the database for #16 for the Canton Base Force and disabled "all" its 5" CD guns.
Started scenario #16
Want to Canton, the CDs show as disabled and told the Base Force to move (Set Dest..). It did not complain.
Ran one turn.
The Base Force had moved to the destination. The CD guns were still present as disabled.

Your guess that the AI is only looking at the number of active static units is probably correct. Should be looking at total units ( disabled and active).

Once the the disabled CDs are repaired, the unit will probably become static again.

Yep,
3 of the CD guns have just been repaired in the Canton Base Force unit.
Now the "Set Dest.." button is not showing.

It does look like the program is not looking at disabled units when deciding the unit contains STATIC items.

Added to the list of things to do.

It may not be as simple as it sounds due to the issue of retreating after loss.

Mogami moved a land unit into Canton. I shock attacked with all units and set all units to follow, then went back and specifically cancelled the command for my garrison units, command HQ, and a few other units. Since the base unit was a static unit, I took no action to keep it from marching. On the next turn, an armored unit followd the retreat into the hex NW of Canton, so I went back to make sure my other units were following into that hex. Mogami shock attacked my armored unit, but ended up running into full 2 divisions plus. That went well :) However, the next turn I discovered that the base force had moved. :(

I can send you the last several days of game time. Where should I send them?

Don't need a save on this one, it's is simple to duplicate.

This problem of "moving disabled static devices" seems to be fixed in v1.40.

The Rangoon CD unit is always moveable. Georgetown CD unit won't etc. Is this simply a database issue?

Yes. It was commented on somewhere else, but I forget which thread. The gist of it is that there are certain guns in the unit which upgrade to permanently emplaced guns. The upgrade occurs when there are enough of the new guns in the pool, etc. This seems to happen either after you have moved the unit (presumably to Australia), so you notice one day that is has become immobile, or while on board ship (which I know sounds crazy). In that case it can be unloaded but is then immobile.

I guess it's not that big a deal, just realize that it will happen and plan to plant the unit where it will stay for the duration. The alternative is leaving it in place to die. Of course, you can use limited time and transport to get some other unit out instead.

Hope this helps.

If a Base force with 'static' CD guns had all those guns disabled, the "set destination" button became active and you could issue movement orders to it until the disabled guns were repaired.
The OOB is okay. It just occurred during the game usually after comabt.

Mine became static then became mobile again about a month later. I had marched them from Darwin to Townsville and they became static along the way then got better.
