well i am fairly certain they were ordered to the hex ;) ...go to PM attack ships. Now the mistake could of been that I didnt have reaction set (0), I did this out of fear they would get distracted on their way in and attack a minesweeper and not show up for the big party I had planned at all :). No doubt it will be pointed out to me that the reason they didnt go to battle is because they had reaction set to zero...maybe...but they damn well should of moved then.

Question is, what was their fuel situation like? If some of the destroyers had to use op points to refuel, then that will hold up the whole fleet.

I recall seeing some of them sitting in an ocean hex for a few turns, hence the reason I sent the carrier group over that way in the first place.

There were some dutch destroyers in the mix (short legs) and they had full tanks less the two days sailing they just did from an unknown base in Northern Australia. What you saw sitting over there was a single destroyer who had raided your minesweepers a few days prior to this abortion. :)

Hi, B-17 require a size 5 airfield (not a size 3) While they can fly from a size 3 airfield they will not fly extended range and at normal range will carry the reduced extended range load. Also B-17 require extra supply to be present in a hex.
How large is Cairns? If less then a 5 the B-17 can only fly 10 hexes. How far away is PM?

The carriers and naval shipping is demonstrating less then ten hexes from their airbase. (between me and Moresby)..reduced loads are not a problem...hell I would settle for any loads at this point. I don't remember the supply off hand (I will be doing my turn for reiyc soon i will take a look) but Im sure it is plenty and I know there is plenty of air support there. Basically, they are just flat out disobeying orders.

This is the checklist for problems that I wrote up after I had similar problems getting B-17s to fly early in the war.

A Checklist for Land-Based Air

Excellant resource, I made a print of it and will refer to it often.

Okay so I checked the supply level there ...it sits at 39 K. My enemy currently has two task forces steaming between Moresby and Cairns, one is 9 hexes away, the second is 10 hexes away. Cairns is a size three airfield which is large enough to hold bombers, and reduced loads. (I did look at the air support and its about 8 under what the min is, perhaps that is the chief issue, though I know i have had groups fly with less the optimum support at reduced strength) So why aren't these guys flying again?

I also checked the fuel levels of my ill-fated task group...it is lower then I like, but certainly not low enough for any ship in that group to ignore orders. <shrug>
