Differences between Bin & KP

Battles In Normandy is the third game in the Decisive Battles game series. Battles in Normandy recreates all aspects of the Normandy campaign, from the landings on the first day to the final climax of the campaign at Falaise. Strategic Studies Group rewrote the Decisive Battles game engine for Battles in Normandy with a host of new special rules for amphibious and airborne operations, plus a huge number of other enhancements.

Differences between Bin & KP

Post by scout1 »

Still fence sitting on BiN.

What are the primary differences between KP & BiN ?
Both are operational level
Both can and probably will have identical scenarios created for them
BiN is newer, nicer look, better AI (presumably since I don't have it)

Very basically, the combat has more detail to it and the supply rules are improved a lot. Also there are the extra rules for about a dozen other things like naval gunfire and rail movement.

Scout,

To get a visual of the differences imagine upgrading from a Porsche 944 (KP) to a 911 Carrera (BIN) [:D]

Yes to all your observations. BIN is upgraded and more engrossing in nearly every aspect.

New movement modes are amphibious (island hopping campaigns!) and rail (longer, faster than road but limited to tracks).

Player can be allocated minefields & strongpoints to place where needed. Very handy when you're in a pinch!

Movement mode is refined (only one mode per unit) and extended movement is not automatic (nor free!).

Top armor values are now +4 shock... impact of Tigers is quite dramatic in BIN games[:D]

Naval artillery is now available. Tremendous impact along any coast lines.

Many, many, many other aspects are added... like recon units that provide added intel & terrain that hids units from discovery (counter-recon).

That's just the tip of the iceberg on the improvements[:D]

I would assume all future user scenarios will be done for BiN. I'd even like to see AtD/WolfbytheEars redone to permit rail use by the Soviets instead of the kludge of just giving more 1st move AP's.

scout, you might also want to check out the TAO4 AAR at the Run5 website, which illustrates the upgrades of the BIN engine nicely.

Just a quick note to add to what Shrek pointed out - the AAR's have been moved to our homepage (www.ssg.com.au) - and are on the links on the left of the page under "Replays (AAR's)"
