Question 17.2/28.5 and a non-play bug

Battles In Normandy is the third game in the Decisive Battles game series. Battles in Normandy recreates all aspects of the Normandy campaign, from the landings on the first day to the final climax of the campaign at Falaise. Strategic Studies Group rewrote the Decisive Battles game engine for Battles in Normandy with a host of new special rules for amphibious and airborne operations, plus a huge number of other enhancements.

Question 17.2/28.5 and a non-play bug

Post by Adam Parker »

Rule 17.2 discusses the iconography for supply units - it also seems to be repeated verbatim in Section 28.5. It mentions that the defense icon shows the unit's OP for movement and another icon showing "movement type used".

Q1. Isn't the icon on the defense bar simply an indicator that Extended Movement can't be used?

Also right clicking on a supply unit brings up the hex info display. Passing the mouse over supply unit there shows the green, orange and red circles to the right of the supply unit's organizational screen. But passing the mouse over these circles shows hot text for "recon, entrench and blow bridge" capabilities applicable to normal units - not the ground condition information these circles relate to for supply units (I really can't find a full explanation for these circles but will continue reading to see).

This is the non-play related bug I refer to.

Thanks,
Adam.

Rule 17.2 discusses the iconography for supply units - it also seems to be repeated verbatim in Section 28.5. It mentions that the defense icon shows the unit's OP for movement and another icon showing "movement type used".

There's there bars that are refered to: from left to right... attack, defense, movement

On the "attack" icon is the movement type symbol showing how the supply unit distributes supply (supply burst). The display for section 17.2 shows a unit that distributes supply using mot.leg movement OP costs. The green attack icon means the unit is providing maximum supply burst.

The blue defense icon shows the unit has a defense strength of 5.

The olive movement icon shows the unit has 16 OPs of movement capability left. The supply movement mode icon on the movement bar means that the unit uses supply movement mode to trace its supply line to a supply source.

Q1. Isn't the icon on the defense bar simply an indicator that Extended Movement can't be used?

Also right clicking on a supply unit brings up the hex info display. Passing the mouse over supply unit there shows the green, orange and red circles to the right of the supply unit's organizational screen. Good catch on the help text.

The three supply burst buttons show how far the supply unit will provide supply next turn by burst state. Click on the Green Button to see how far maximum supply burst will go. Orange Button shows how far reduced supply burst will go. Red Button shows how far minimum supply burst will go on the next turn.

This is the non-play related bug I refer to.

Thanks,
Adam.

On help text: in tutorial lesson2 (and probably in the game as well) mousing over the dispersed button gives the help text "Transport button. Shows if unit.. etc. "

Guys,
Thanks for pointing out the help text issues - these have been noted and will be fixed for the patch.
