Carrier-capable Air Group "Slots"

Post by Don Bowen »

After some historical research I would like to change the airgroups of Gilbert Islands, Cape Gloucester, and Vella Gulf from replacement wings to the Marine VCS squadrons that actually operated from them.

These airgroups are in slots 2197 to 2202.

Question: If I change these 6 slots to operational squadrons, will the aircraft fly?
If not, can anyone define the absolute range of "slots" which are carrier capable?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC, carrier-capable is based on type of aircraft used (slot 1-7,15-23 for Japanese and 77-101 for Allies).
From this, I summise that a Squadron is carrier-capable (not neccessarily carrier-trained) if it is equipped with aircraft from the above slots.

From other posts, I think the VR in the name actually stops it from "flying" as they are classed as replacements. Nothing in the editor manual however seems to support this

Makes sense - Thank You. I also notice that the VR- units are designated as Wings - that might also have something to do with it. Heaven forbid these things should be parameterized.

Any squadron listed as VR are replenishment squadrons, These VR squadrons are not meant for combat or to be off loaded from the CVE's they arrive with. The VR squadrons are replenishment squadrons meant to replenish your other carriers while underway at sea.

If a carrier needs a few replacement the VR group (if the right type of A/C) will fly off replacements to the carrier if it is in range. If you take them off the CVE's then strange things are likley to happen.
