"War in the Pacific" problems

Post by supertankerr »

I am having trouble with Pacific War in two things.
First, eventhough I have a pentium 1.7 Ghz with 512 meg of RAM and a ATI Rage 64 card my computer runs super slow in WITP especially when the computer is training ships crews. Sometimes it can take up to 5 minutes for this each turn. I have closed down everything and disabled Norton Virus protection.
Second, I have searched the directions concering bases thoroughly in the manual but am unable to figure out just how one is able to get the computer to allow someone to build airfields. I was playing the campaign game in early 1844 had tons and tons of supplies and fuel with probably up to 25 various units of engineers of all types (air force, base, SeeBees, etc) on the Island of Papae next to Guam. The little arrow for expanding airfields just never comes up. Can anyone please assist?

Re building bases, airfields, etc. I have the same problem. To solve this, hit "Stop expanding bases, airfield, etc". My version(121) then goes happily on its way building. Hugh Browne

Sorry, I misread your problem re building airfields. 2 further points-1. Are you in human control? 2. The only island "next" to Guam, outside of Saipan, is Pagan. (Palau is too far west, I think). Do you control Pagan as the US? Also, see the manual, 9.4.2, pg. 165. Hope this helps. Hugh Browne

Turn off all the "chrome" - search radii, etc. - this will speed things up...

Training ship crews is a really big loop that processes through every ship on both sides ... very math intensive, nothing you can do to make that run faster.

Could it possibly be that the airfield on the island in question is already as large as it can be?

I am sorry you are correct, I misspelled the name of the island, it is Pagan. The answer to your question is YES. I totally control this island as the Americans with no Japanese on the island and have for over a month and a half. But I never get the option in the right hand corner allowing me to build airfields

No, I had a value of only one with a possible four being able to be built

Five minutes isn't too bad, actually. I have a 2.26 GHz Machine. With Combat Animations etc turned off I still take about 7-9 minutes to run a complete turn, and Training Crews is the longest part of that, maybe 3 minutes+.

Set Message Delay to 0.1 sec (the shortest). That helps in general but won't speed up that training part of the turn.

Another thing that can really help (it did on the laptop) is to set the priority of your game to high.

Ctl-Alt-Del then Processes then Right click on WitP then Set Priority then High.

Really helped my games move along on the slow laptop.

Do so at your own risk! See post below.

Careful there Knavey ... doing things like that with ATI video cards tends to result in a corrupt hard drive [:(]

They are priority hogs [:D]

Added a disclaimer Mr. Frag...although I haven't had any problems yet. Yet being the key word if it ever happens.
