Also, Runsilentrundeep, could you send me a blank email to reply to? The turn is ready but your email address has vanished from my address book. Sigh.
RE: Ow, My Fleet! - Allied 2-Day PBEM
Sorry to say this has been called off. My esteemed opponent has bowed out because of real life issues (the right decision). But it's been fun. [:)]
On a related note, I'm in need of an opponent. Any takers?

Resumed! Captain Cruft is my new opponent and things are already picking up speed.
He launches several invasions today all over the SRA and in outlying islands as well. IJA troops advance in Malacca, Tarawa, Kuantan, Morotai, and Brunei.
Lingayen is bombarded, the British destroyer Thracian is torpedoed as it attempts to flee Singapore, while outnumbered Buffalos attempt to ward off swarms of Zeroes, Oscars and Nates. No lucky bomb hits on transports today, although S-39 decides to have a gun duel with an AP. Not so smart.
No action, but I can already tell Cruft is going to be a very different opponent. Here's the CR -

Yes it's me. I actually like the 2 day format and Alikchi here seems to be a tophole chap
It's strange taking over a game from someone else. Things are all in the "wrong" place ... I estimate it will take a couple of game weeks before I finish re-arranging stuff to my liking. In the meantime I will mainly just be consolidating the existing conquests.
All of which means that the expansion of the Empire may become a bit behind schedule ... It's a good job we have hordes of invincible Nates is all I can say!

They did actually kick some butt in the turn just gone (it's in the mail ...).

Running it now!
12/31/41-1/1/42
12/31/41-1/1/42
Happy new year! The action is starting to build up as the enemy shifts assets into positions where they can hurt me. Nates and Zeroes hack British and Dutch Buffalos out of the sky in droves, sustaining no damage of their own. (One Dutch air unit has a morale of 16 after losing 2/3rds of its pilots over the last two days.) I don't think I shot down a single plane on the 31st. [:(]
The Dutch submarine O19 torpedoes a troop-laden AP (12th Aviation Regiment) off Borneo and gets away clean. Also, Japanese sub I-153 torpedoes a TK off Canton Island, then, drunk on sake from their wild New Year's party, illogically decides to send three more torpedoes into the smoking hulk. It promptly sinks and I-153 goes off on its merry way.
(I really need more DDs for convoy escort. They're spread out all over the place.)
Most disturbing are the reports from China. Chinese troops are being herded up and pushed back to the highway, and it's almost impossible to form a coherent defensive line. The Japanese are really keeping up the pressure here. So much for a sleeper theater.
In the Phillipines, almost all my shipping has escaped (what hasn't just got bombed by zeroes in the attempt) and ground forces are almost into perfect positions. My only worry is supply. Malaya is a standstill, but a Japanese breakthrough is inevitable. In Burma, Japanese forces are only a few miles away from Rangoon as I pull out.
To round off the day, 86 Kates pound Rabaul from what I can only assume is the KB a ways to the northeast.

IMPERIAL GENERAL HEADQUARTERS RESOLVES TO "KILL MORE BUFFALOES"
Domei, Tokyo - In a recent news conference concerning the progress of the war, IGHQ spokesman Raizo Ishii related to the Japanese public their Western New Year's Resolution: to "kill more Buffaloes".
The Brewster Buffalo, a low-quality fighter aircraft in use by the decadent western imperialists of all types, is reportedly "really tubby" and "just hard to look at".
Ishii continued, "We've subdu-- liberated much of Greater East Asia, but there is still much more to come! Our Indonesian and Burman comrades still toil under the cruel eye of the Brewster Conspiracy. Much work is yet to be done."
"Surrender! Everything is resistless!", Ishii added.

RE: 1/4/42-1/5/42
It's getting to the stage where my re-arrangments are nearly complete. This means that you can look forward to some invasions real soon now
My 1942 New Year present - H8K Emily production begins! I love this plane, one of my ambitions is to pull off a night torpedo attack with 'em, preferably on some US CVs.

1/6/42-1/7/42
1/6/42-1/7/42
A fairly interesting set of turns!
In Malaya, Sallies bomb Singapore airfield into oblivion, and with my forces retreating to the last two hexes north of the city itself, I decide it's time to start pulling out the air units. I don't expect the peninsula to hold out much longer - it looks like my esteemed opponent has brought in reinforcements - a couple of divisions I hadn't seen yet. I'm debating whether or not to hold outside the city - I'll wait and see if my units are too disrupted.
I'd already pulled out most of my air assets from the PI (witness the surprisingly successful B-17 attacks on Kuching airfield). The rest are island-hopping their way out. Every ship that can float has either escaped or been sunk (other than PTs). As for the land situation.. the enemy takes unoccupied San Marcelino with a tank brigade. All my troops are pretty much where I want them now - the Manila/Clark/Bataan triangle. My only fears are to the south- Cruft appears to be landing some serious reinforcements in southern Luzon. I have a delaying force in the hex but it won't last long. Still, why waste assets?
In ABDA, as mentioned earlier, B-17s make attacks on Kuching airfield. This is A Good Thing - the Betties in Kuching give me the heebie-jeebies about moving shipping around and interdict my freedom of movement in the Java Sea. The airfields in Soerbaja and Batavia are overflowing with aircraft brought in from the Phillipines, Malaya, and other DEI islands deemed "not worth losing aircraft over".
China continues to be a mess. I'm trying to rush reinforcements to Changsha and other important locations as quickly as possible, but I goofed up my early moves in this theater. Hopefully, I can recover in time. I feel like Stilwell trying to manage the place.
In the South Pacific I have essentially nothing to stop the massive enemy buildup north of Rabaul. I've spotted at least three large fleets, and when my Hudsons idiotically decided to bomb one, they were met with a 42-Zero CAP. Eek. I know what THAT is and I'm steering my CVs clear. I'm still hoping to get potshots in at an invasion fleet. The Kido Butai can't be everywhere, right? Friggin' Betties and their long range.. [;)]
CENTPAC is idle. I'm attempting to will the ships at Pearl Harbor - especially Oklahoma - to repair faster, but no luck. At least I feel somewhat secure now - I've spread out my PBYs and other aircraft. I'm also building up bases for the future.
In the far North, I actually do have some action underway. Not divulging, though. [8D]
On the west coast I'm throwing shipping around all over the place.. I still have plenty of ground and air assets that need moving. On that note, what exactly am I supposed to do with these Mohawks? I'm leaving them there until I can upgrade them, for now.
Finally, a Japanese sub gets a lucky shot into an AK carrying a bomber squadron (!) and is peremptorily depth-charged into submission. The AK in question should make it to Palmyra. At least I did attack DDs to the convoy. Losing 20 bombers to a submarine in a unescorted convoy would be rather embarrasing.

RE: 1/6/42-1/7/42
China is a bit of a mess for us Japs too ... I'm waiting for the siege guns to arrive from Kwantung before seriously going on the offensive. Getting Wuchow for nowt was a pleasant surprise though.
Rabaul - I'm taking no chances with this, also the KB happened to be in Truk when I took over the game. Assuming I can invade Rabaul without trouble then the KB may be split up and "re-allocated".
Also, don't forget the baby carriers and their mean-ass Claudes ...

Sorry about the lateness - the last week or so has been hectic. But things continue to progress!
North Pacific - No action.. yet. *evil glint in eye*
Central Pacific - BB Oklahoma drops down to 97 sys damage. Woo! [;)] Sub operations are getting underway.
SOPAC/SWPAC - Convoys straggle towards Australia from the US and two transport ships are sunk today, one carrying a load of valuable AC. Poop! The DDs escorting are ineffectual. Something has to be done to secure the Oz/US convoy line.. these incessant sub attacks just won't do. The KB off Rabaul pounds Rabaul airfield (empty except for some Hudsons; hey, I'm not going to be the one repairing it later). Units are tagged to reinforce PM. An early grab for it is possible and I need to prevent that from happening. Noumea could use reinforcements as well. Just need the PPs and APs to send Kiwi and Aussie units to the right places.
PI - No significant action - Clark gets pounded a couple times.
DEI - Carrier strike on Amboina! A lot of TKs, APs, and AKs had piled up in the harbor, loading up oil and resources. Baby KB came in and torpedoed a -lot- of them. The only thing to do now is to.. well, crap, there isn't anything to do. Erk. [:(]
China - 1000 gun bombardments = scary. Reinforcements still moving forward.
Burma - no action. Rangoon is almost isolated. They will die to the last man! Arrrr!

Arrrr!

North Pacific - No action.. yet. *evil glint in eye*
/me is a bit worried about this. Hopefully it will just be a bombardment of the Kuriles or summat.
SOPAC/SWPAC - Convoys straggle towards Australia from the US and two transport ships are sunk today, one carrying a load of valuable AC. Poop! The DDs escorting are ineffectual.
Ahem. In fact the attacking sub was sunk by the usual 5+ heat-seeking, radar-guided depth-charges. Still, I was pleased to see those Bolos going to Davy Jones' locker
RE: 1/10/42-1/11/42
Yes, well, allright. [:D] Maybe I've become used to the performance of the pre-patch Alien Destroyers from Space.

An interesting turn.
DEI - There was a heck of a lot of action for the Dutch this turn! Tbe B-17s continue their ineffectual bombing of Kuching. I'm not sure if I should call it off or not, or simply scale down - the Dutch Buffaloes that attempt to escort get regularly slaughtered by the Zeroes on CAP, but the B-17s are untouched. Ah, well, it's keeping a high-quality Zero unit pinned down at minimal cost to me. What's a few shot-down Buffalo to the ruthless Allied commander? [;)] A Betty unit beings night bombing at Batavia, hoping to catch a few ships in port - they find no targets, and the Sea Gladiators on night CAP fail to engage them.
Amboina is the center of the action. It's just my luck that I started pulling the oil and resources out of there right as my esteemed opponent showed up with a well-supported invasion fleet. In any case, enemy troops begin landing, and a bombardment group led by the cruisers Nachi and Myoko demolish two seperate convoys at night on their way to Amboina, which is then bombarded. What I believe is a CVL group two hexes to the northeast of Amboina also participates in the slaughter of merchants. The Hudsons at Amboina continue to miss IJN vessels.
At the same time, Lexington and Enterprise have passed between New Guinea and Oz heading north. I'd been watching TFs, and when their target was obviously Amboina I sent them north to intercept. I had hoped to make it in time to hit the invasion convoy, but no luck. I caught Nachi and Myoko's task force - USN Buffaloes and Wildcats blew away the Claudes on CAP and held the Zeroes at bay, allowing the SBDs to rain 1000 lb bombs with impunity. CA Nachi's magazine explodes and is sunk, and CA Myoko eats 9 1000 pound bombs and isn't expected to last long. [8D]
At the end of the turn, my CVs reacted to the enemy carrier TF - which I'm still not sure is the CVL force. Everything points to it being the CVLs, but even if they are, is it safe engaging them? Do I even have a choice at this point? The last thing I want to do is lose my CVs. He'll drop all inhibitions if I do. The CVs are exposed and I just kicked the metaphorical tiger in the balls. I'll have plenty of opportunities to play with the Jap CVs later - right now, I just have to survive. The question is whether he'll let me escape. [:)]
Biak was also taken, in northern New Guinea. I assume that he'll use it to monitor and/or interdict traffic traveling between Australia and the DEI. I'm lucky he didn't have this base earlier, or my CVs would have been spotted on their way to the Banda Sea. Nothing I can do about it at this point - he'll probably have Emilies flying from there within the week.
PI - Manila was port attacked today - two previously damaged subs (hit at the beginning of the war) soak up a couple more 100 kg bombs. Nothing much to do here but wait. Oh - I am transferring out the last PBY group. As useful as the intel they provided was, I need to get them out before there are no more airfield within range to retreat to.
China - The fighting at Changsha and Yenen continues, with Chinese forces outnumbered 2 and 3 to 1, respectively. [X(] Where are my reinforcements? Arrrg!
Malaya - the RAF in Malaya is entirely inactive at this point, having been almost completely evacuated. The only ships remaining in Singapore harbor are too damaged to risk leaving. On the ground, I've retreated to Johore Bahru and the other hex just north of Singapore itself.
SOPAC - Green Island, north of Shortlands, is taken. This could be important or not - we'll see. Rabaul is bombarded, bombed, and then invaded by the South Seas Detachment - a great example of CD suppression. The Aussies won't last long there.
Little action in other theaters.

RE: 1/10/42-1/11/42
I'm going to think aloud here and wonder why I haven't been attacked in Manila or Clark yet. I guess the troops are still en route.
One of my major problems at this point in the war is the lack of good base forces - I simply don't have enough aviation support to efficiently operate all the available aircraft in places like Java and northern Burma.
