Scenario: Crossing the Moselle River, 1944

Post by Count Sessine »

Hi guys

Here's a scenario I've made.

At first I wanted to recreated the first game in the CMMC-series, the CPX (command post exercise), in which I commanded the 115PGR. The HTTR-engine perfectly recreates the operational ambience from CMMC. I re-used the map from the CPX, but gradually changed the OOB's and the missions to make it more interesting for both sides. You can play both sides.

I believe the original CPX-map was procured by René Lloyd, James Bailey and Stefan Sheckells.

I'm open to suggestions regarding objective placement etc. as this is my first scenario (but not my last).

Check out CMMC (Combat Mission Meta Campaign) at www.cmmc2.org. We're currently fighting a corps-level battle on the eastern front in '42 - it's moving forward, albeit at a glacial pace, so patience is a must should you want to join us :-)

I look forward to your feed-back.

PS. Just realised there's a max limit of 200kb on uploads. Can someone host it for me ? Meanwhile, you can pm me, and I'll mail you the files.

Can't handle it right now.

But you may be able to find some help for hosting your files from Tactics (worldwarhq.com) or El Savior (airborne depot)

I hope this helps,

JeF.

You can also upload scenarios & maps to www.thegamers.net, which is a scenario depot hosted by The Wargamer.

Make sure you include any custom maps together with your scenarios as the user must have both files to play a game.

I noticed that the scenario file in the zip pack has an aar extension rather than a aas extension...

I will try to play it as soon as I find some time :)

I have already tested scenario for about an hour, so it's working. Map looks amazingly good and althought fictional, scenario sounds interesting. I will test it more when I have more time.

After you download it, don't forget to map cache it if you want the map to scroll faster.
Start Mapmaker
Load the map.
Under the "Map" tab select "Generate Map Draw Cache"
It'll churn away for a bit, but the result should be smoother scrolling, especially if you are running a slower machine. Note that the cache is 8.5mb

PS: I was one of the GM's for that CPX way back when (GM Matt "citizen" Hyra). I was the personnel manager and wrote the first draft of the rulebook. I also made about a dozen of the CM maps and set up several of the battles. Seeing that map again brought back a ton of memories. It's gonna to be fun to actually play on the map...

Matt!

Good to hear from you again ! When did you leave CMMC ? I don't recall... It's funny to see how relatively small the wargaming community is, despite covering the entire planet, hehe-

If you wanna play the scenario, start as the germans :-)

Couldn't wait to play it, so I hve already plaed it once as the Brits. Too bad I didn't see your post first. Eh, I knew where the clash points were going to be anyway from the CPX.

I left the CMMC a few months after the CPX ended due to real life time issues. I had been spending about 2 hours a day working on it... while at work! Then things got busy.

Question for you. All the units are "white" bordered, meaning it's very tough to see who is attached and detached. Also, I wasn't getting any pink tone for units that had rec'd orders.

Is there a reason for that?

Lack of pink tone for orders received - that sounds like you might be playing with orders delay switched off. Normally the game remembers the setting from one scenario to the next but on initial install it's always set to off, possibly it's been reset or you just installed/reinstalled the game?

The command-bar colour is set in the scenario and defaults to black on white - you can change it in the ScenMaker, it's down the bottom of the Scenario tab:

Image

and you just double-click on the side name to bring up a dialog where you specify the colour. In HTTR, the colours were:

Axis: 192, 192, 192
Allies: 233, 176, 92

(Count Sessine, I have received the copy of the scenario you sent, but haven't had time to look at it yet - it'll be a couple of days, probably towards the end of next week, but I promise I will get to it!)

I fixed it as per Steves instructions in version 1.1. I had overlooked that little detail :-) All units are initially attached to their HQ's, it was merely a color problem. If you want to, I can mail you the new file. Also, if you remember any of the Allied player names from the CPX, I'd like to have their names appear under the commander tabs for the units.

Ok, no problem. We're nothing but patient :-) Thanks for the tip re. the bar colors. Hadn't figured that out.

I can go in and make that fix, but thanks for the offer. As for the pink, I only play at Painfully Realistic delay and there certainly was delay in game. I just double checked that the setting is still at PR and just loaded a save and gave an order that took forever to trickle down the chain. I just couldn't see it trickle as there was no pink... Hmm.

I too was part of CMMC (Ltn(?) Lesley Feakes). "Commanded" a couple of the Btns/Bgdes under the 43rd Wessex (albeit very briefly, and without fighting any CM battles). For me, too, RL won the battle! I think my commander was...Declan MacManus (an elvis costello fan)
