Simplification of the Air rules.

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

Simplification of the Air rules.

Post by Mziln »

I thought about posting this under "What Do You Think Needs to be in World In Flames PC Game" but thought I would see what others think.

Would it be possable to merge the Air Phases?

Instead of:

Defender flys XXX CAP
Attacker flys XXX mission
Defender flys intercept

Defender flys YYY CAP
Attacker flys YYY mission
Defender flys intercept

Etc.

Have:
Defender flys all CAP missions
Attacker flys All Air missions
Defender flys intercepts

This would make everything much easier.

I belive Attacke not knowing which Defender CAP missions would offset the fact that the attacker would not know what kind of defensive CAP was being flown.

A variant would be to show which intercepts would be allowed for particular defending air units.

Example:
Durring the intercept phase the available defending air unit would highlight (as usual).

And you would select which intercept mission Ground strike, Air transport, etc. From a popup window which would show which intercept missions could be flown.

If the defending unit failed all intercept rolls it would not highlight (as usual). If it failed that particular intercept roll the intercept mission would not show up in the popup window.

Knowing absolutely nothing about the mechanics of cWIF I hesistate to comment, but it seems blatantly logical if the developers wish the PBEM feature of this game to operate efficiently then there will have to be provisions for the nonphasing players' elligible unit actions to be automated.

I think the best way to handle this is through an AI rather than changing the game mechanics.

It might simplify the rule, but complicate the whole game .....rule a or rule b depending on your optional set at start of game. I would not like to see the normal WIF game sequences not be included in the game. WIF works well, changing the game will effect play balance and play balance can kill a game.
