CV Question

Post by Desertmole »

I am a new player and need some advice on CV operations

In playing recently, my USS Enterprise was damaged and my Hornet sunk. Their squadrons were diverted to a land base. I moved all squadrons back to Noumea, and after the Enterprise docked her squadrons were automatically transferred aboard.[;)]

I wanted to bring her squadrons up to strength by disbanding the Hornet squadrons and letting them be absorbed into Enterprise's. When I tried to disband them, I got an error message that no other squadrons were present. I transferred the Enterprise squadrons ashore, disbanded the Hornet squadrons, but was then unable to return the Enterprise squadrons to the ship. I tried leaving both in prot for several days and also tride the "Transfer to Ship" button on the squadron window. What did I do wrong?[&:]

Welcome aboard Desertmole.
First off how early in the game are you, if you have newer upgraded aircraft
on the enterprise or vice versa you cannot combine them together until they are
both the same aircraft type. ( F3F OR F4F etc)
Make sure your carrier is not over 50% damaged as you will not be able to
land aircraft back on the carrier. ( send her back for repair and AAA upgrades)

If you are early in the game then you should never attack the IJN CV'S until
your fighters are up to full strength 36 plane Sqdrns and trained up to levels
comparable to the IJN'S at 70% or more experiance.
You have sent back to Pearl and recieved ships with sufficient AAA upgrades
your early carriers and cruisers need to go back to pearl at some point
to upgrade thier AAA and then you will start to absorb the incoming attacks from
the IJN strikes.
I always wait to attack the IJN CV'S after they have been in combat for a few
days to a week and are sufficiently spent and my airgroups are ready and well
rested.

The IJN CV'S will always come out on top of carrier battles until you are:
1: full strength fighter sqdrns
2: trained up to levels above 70% especially for fighters
3: you are well rested and the IJN sufficiently tired out and understrength
4: you have the element of surprise ( arriving right out of a heavy thunderstorm etc)
5: you have CV'S, CA'S, CL'S, CAA'S and destroyers that are upgraded at least once

Some others can expand on this advice in a little more detail but I hope this helps.
This game is about strategy and logistics and once you get a grasp on that concept
you will have a ton of fun with it.[;)]

I would suggest you firstly transfer the Hornet squadrons onto the Enterprise and then disband them.It shoud work.

If i remember correctly you can't completely dispand carrier air groups. If you are short of F4's dispand one of the Marine units.
