Japan still at Nomonhon 12/22/39

Nomonhon East Asia: 1700 Hours 12/22/39

Almost Christmas and were still stuck in this hell hole. We have been ordered to advance and finish the Russians once and for all. If the last battle is any indication of things to come, then we can expect for them to thro all there tanks at us.

We are moving east to west on a large map. Visibility is around 2500 yards. This may hurt us with there tank big guns. Will have to use the hills for cover as we move to engage them.

The north VH sits in a small valley almost encircled by hills. We must cross a small hill to be able to even see the vh first. I shall move out across the valley to the eastern hill and entrench there on the reverse slope. Our ATG and IG guns plus tanks will stay on the eastern hill for support.

The south is set up about the same way. Except there are more spines running north to south. The Vh is in the valley between this and a higher hill to the west. Again my troops will rush to the reverse slopes of the western hill while the tanks and guns will sit on the spines for cover.

The center has a zig zag road running to a high hill in the west. On top of this hill is where the center vh sits. The center will travel the road for speed and then spread out at the base of that hill and wait. About 300 yards to the east of this hill is two small hills. This is where my guns and tanks will sit and cover the infantry as they advance to the foot of the western hill.

I hope this is the last time i have to fight the Red Horde. Even tho a lot of us are resigned to our fate we are up for this fight. We can hear the rumble of the tank engines already. It sounds like there must be a thounsand tanks headed our way. Just hope we are fast enough to reach the hill slopes before they crest over the top.

The north and south have reached the VH and are moving to the reverse slopes of there hills. The north was the first to reach there objectives and set up there lines. The guns are in place to cover and have already took out several tanks that popped up over the crest of the hill. Have lost a sniper and a recon car and one tank. Loss of life has been minimum so far.

The south was at there objectve at about the same time. They have lost two tanks so far and a recon squad. Although the 25mm AA got in place quick due too the gun teams the IG and ATG are still not on the two hills. They have about 100 yards to go but all the tanks are set up and provided good cover for the troops.

The center had the longest route to go even with using the road. They have left the road and are moving south along the base of the hill. The guns did get set up in time to give them cover tho. They have taken out at least 7 tanks that reached the crest of the hill as our troops were begining to get into position. No report from them as yet on any losses or condition of there troops after the mad dash to the hill.

All forward VHs are in our hands and secure. North and South flanks have moved up on the western hills in front of them. The center is fighting up the eastern slope of the hill in front of them. Some advance scouts and recon cars have taken there VH too.

The Russians mounted a large Tank force against all our lines. The guns i had positioned on the hills for cover layed waste to there tank force. My tanks in support of the troops also got there share of the action. In the first 25 minutes of very heavy fighting we killed and destroyed at least 40 of there tanks while losing only 3 of ours.

Ill tell you our troops that have the 50MM knee mortar are really bad ass killers against those tanks. Although each company has one section of extra knee mortars these are no where near as good as the plattoon ones. This is due to there mortars only having a range of 150 yards. Where the ones in the plattoons have a range of around 500 yards. I will have to replace the section ones with the newer longer range ones.

I also like the 150 and the 81 mortars over the 90MM ones for some reason. I think it is because of the accuracy of the 81 over the 90s and the splash damage of the 150 although not as accurate.

The north and south flanks have crested the hills and have begun to move towards the rear objectives. We have broken there tank force and we are now running into massive amounts of infantry. It is now a fight for every 50 yards against heavy and fanatical opposition. Where early in the battle we sat and waited for the tanks to come to us, we are now on a search and destroy mission. Our losses due to this style of fighting has gone up in the last 15 minutes. But no where near what the enemy is suffering as we advance.

I still have artty support and will have for bout another 15 minutes or so. When this has been expended it will be heavy hand to hand all the way to the rear VH. But so far my men seem to be up to this sort of fight. We want to finish the Russians in this battle so we can go home. Banzei Banzei Banzei has been heard almost constantly across the pock marked land scape all along our lines. I am proud to have these men under my command.

All fronts have moved over there respective hills and down the west slopes. We are advancing all along the lines. Bitter hand to hand fighting is common. The Russians are retreating in all areas. But they are not giving the ground up with out a fight. We rout them out of there hasetily formed breast works to have them fall back and set up again. Half squads and ones that only have three to four men in them are fighting for there lifes.

Once in a while we run into the occasional tank. It is quickly dealt with and sent to hell. My HQ has been going around the battle field destroying some of the abanoned tanks. Thought this would get him some kills and maybe help with his experience. But he gets no kills for doing this at all. He has blown up at least 5 tanks with no credit for doing it.

We are now about 700 yards from the rear objectives. The end is in sight and im sure it will be an decisive victory. Looks like we will get home a little after Christmas but in time for the new year. We have been here for four months dealing death and destruction to the Russians. Im sure they wont want to mess with us any more after these four months. They have found out we are a force to be reckoned with. Hail to the emperor of Japan. The sun has risen on our homeland once again.

We have crushed the Russian force. A deciseive victory for the Empire. All VH are in our hands.
Our losses were held to a minimum. Men lost was 73 and 4 AFV. There losses were men 1421 plus 15 artty and a staggering 114 tanks.

Our losses during the 4 month campaign were 585 men and 20 AFV. The enemy losses were staggering men 4651 artty 41 and 329 of there best tanks. They have given up the territory to us. All there troops and equipment has disapeered from the area.

We have heard that Russia has signed a non aggression pact with Germany. We like to think it was due mostly to how bad we whipped them. We also heard that they have began a war with Finland on the same day we deliverd our crushing blow. I guess they dont want to have anything to do with such a great fighting force as Japan.

We have been ordered back to Japan for rest and recuperation. For repairs and upgrading of all our equipment. We will be embarking for home around the 28 of this month. We will then have about 6 months time to get ready for the invasion of China. All the men are happy about getting some leave time with our loved ones. Im sure when we invade China the men will be eager to go. We have got a unit citation from the Emperor and some promotions were handed out.

The long campaign from 1939 start of the war. So far i have Germany East and West front Japan Asia and Russia who all started in 1939. In may of 1940 Britin will be added to the list. They start out in Europe in this year. The USA does not start out in Africa some time in 1942 i believe and in the pacific in 1942 too. Also Britian will have a second front in Asia in late 1941 or early 1942. This is all in the dates of the long campaign. Gives me a lot of diversity and troop selection and how they all fought differently and yet a lot of the same way. I have already fought 4 battles with Japan so far in 1939 alone but there next battle is not till June 1940. Both the east and west fronts for germany fought 2 battles each. There next battle for each is in May 1940.

Just started Russias first battle in 1939 against the Finns. Russia in the long campaign has only one front where all the other powers have 2 fronts. Which means a lot more battles for me to fight until the end of the war.

Take for instance Germany west front i have Panzer Grenadiers and for the East front i have SS. Japan for asia has A squads as there troops. Where in the pacific i intend for them to be SNLF troops.

America in Africa will be US Army with maybe a company of New Zealenders attatched and in the Pacific it will be all US Marines.

The British in Europe will have a company of Canadians attatched and in the Pacific it will be Austrailians attached.

How do i keep them straight you may ask. I have a lot of note pads handy. Also i fight only one complete battle till it is done. I then look for the earliest date for the forces given to me by the long campaign. This goes on and on till i either finish the long campaign for every major power or i can no longer sit up at my desk. I have gotten all the way up to middle of 1942 before i started over due to upgrades of the game. I will no longer do that anymore upgrades or no I have done that too many times. I am too old and get tired too easy anymore.

I didnt mean to ramble on so much in answer to your question. I just needed for everyone to understand what i am trying to accomplish in my life time. I am so glad i retired several years back almost ten years now. I just didnt have the time to work anymore and still get the hours i needed to play SPWAW.[:D][:D][:D][:D]
