Game's lentgh

Post by ElvisDaKing »

Just a quick question : How long do you estimate the lentgh of a PBEM played on a regular basis, and how much time do you need to complete your turn ?

a player turn takes anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes (maybe a bit more for the WA). i would say the AVERAGE turn takes about 15 minutes (that includes the movement phase and production phase).

the length of time it takes to play a PBEM games (not just GGWAW) is based on how fast all the participants can get a game turn sent out after they recive it.

GGWAW has the benifit of not requiring any reaction moves (and extra emails) by the enemy. so a players complete game turn (3 months) is completed in one "session" then it is emailed to the next player in the loop (GE, JA, SU, CH, WA, then back to GE...)

in a 4 player PBEM game that goes to the end of 1945 there will be only 96 total emails (24 emails for each of the 4 players). if each player plays one turn a day the game will last 24 days.

Hmmmm…..in the faq it says “Four full-length scenarios (Spring ’40, Summer ’41, Spring ’42, Summer ’43) lasting to the end of the war” Does the end of the war have to always mean 1945??? I really can’t stand the thought of playing the US/UK and finally pushing the Japanese out of the Pacific and assisting USSR push back the wehrmacht and begin planning my final offensive…only to have a little pop up window come up saying “ This game has ended”. Time limits in games like this are so awful! I hope that at 1945 it gives you the choice of “ End in Victory, or Play on!” . This brings me to my next question…as I hate the thought of a time limit , will I be able to change/mod this in the engine so I’m not stuck with a short 5 year time span if they do do this?!

Three of the scenarios go to the end of 46, with the 43 start scenario going to the end of 45. However, you can choose a game with no time limit and can also choose not to have automatic victories function. If you use both of these options, you have a true fight to the death.
