OK, I know I'm a novice, but still...

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

After playing a numer of scenarios and doing rather well, I thought it was time for a campaing. I tried the "long, long road to victory", bought a mix of armor, infantry with some engineers a few mortars and AA guns and started to advance against the french positions.

However, I am cut to pieces whatever I do! Those air attacks are devastating! One stuke can easily destroy an AFV and three full squads, even though I try to spread them out a little - my squads take a lot of casualities even though the bomb lands two hexes away.

Have I missed something obvious here or is the first scenario meant to be a killer?

Adjacent hex damage has been a little extreme in spwaw, it seems. More often than not, the adjacent hexes suffer more damage than the actual impact hex.

Yes, it was a good concept but I've just seen stuff get ridiculous as far as 'collateral damage' goes. Oh well...

Just another reason for CL.

chpo, I checked this campaign and it seems that it's suffering from versionitis.

A single Stuka won't cause that much damage on it's own but in this scenario the designer has specified for an aircraft that are no longer available in the oob. Namely the Do-217. In it's place in the first battle appears a biplane that carries total of 16 250kg bombs! I'd hazard a guess that it was *this* aircraft that caused all those causalties???

So unless the campaign creator fixes this you just have to live with it or edit the campaign yourself..that will of course spoil all those nasty surprises...or you could use the preferences screen and set 'arty vs soft' to a lower value thus reducing the lethality of arty&air strikes agains infantry.

For those who are interested I have fixed Marocco battles and Tunisia battles in this campaign. Mail me to get them; easy install: unzip scenarios to scenario folder (saved 250+) and add them into campaign in campaign editor. If this is too much 'tech' I can send whole campaign, but its almost two megs in size.

So far only minor changes, waiting for reply from WB if Tunisia battles need to be worked a bit harder...

Thanks Voriax and Skukko. For the immediate time being, I'll try to adjust the settings - for this scenario at least.

Skukko, I'll mail you so I can have a "proper" scenario. I understand thing like this may happen when you tweak the versions - that's one reason this forum is so great!
