how do i convert to mag

I have a 3ds model, and i want to convert it to .mag i know that magic can open mag but i dont see under import any other format then mag, any ideas on a program that will convert?

Magic can open several 'standard' file types. I believe .3ds is one of them. Just run magic and open the .3ds file and it should import it. FOr all I know it'll require some tweaking, but I've never done modeling in any program other than magic, and I've never had to import into magic so....

ok i may be a bit slow to modding this game but here goes: I downloaded the magic program from starshatter website, and unzipped, tried to load 3ds files but the program only reads .mag, even under import. Now my question is, is there a plugin that it needs or am i downloading the wrong one?

If you type in "*.3ds" as the file name in the import window, the 3ds files will show up, or just type in the actual name, ie "cruiser.3ds".

or just all files


when you import your model, select the WHOLE model and run reduce verts from the menu

select 0.1

for some reason magic doubles the verts on 3ds files it imports... that or its something with the 3ds format, either way, you NEED to run that or its like running two models in place of one.

ok ummm following the simple directions i was given, didnt work. heres what i did:

Opened magic
Import, (all files), ship.3ds
Error, could not open file.

I went into the sample directory of starshatter and loaded up a mag file and saved it has XXX.3ds. then tried to load it with 3d exploration and it doesnt load it something about being bad format.

I really dont want to have to give my models to someone else to convert, because i would hopefully like to do it myself, what the point of modding if you cant convert a simple model.

Anyway, could it be my program, or ideas??

Don't select import, that's for loading in a MAG file without losing the currently loaded model. Just use the normal Open... selection.

ya

just open

make sure the textures are in pcx format in the same dir
make sure they are less then 8 characters when you export from max also
