IJN Pilots vs. Planes

Post by mc3744 »

I started few days ago my first IJN PBEM game. May '42 campaign.
I have one big question: what do I need over 200 different planes as replacements per month if I only get 30 pilots per month? [&:] Who is going to pilot the replacement planes?

What am I missing? [&:]

Thanks

Once your initial pool is drawn down, you get 'recruit' type pilots to fill the gaps. These guys will have very low xp and need some training to have any hope of survival on the front. You will continue to get trained pilots each month as well. I can't remember all the rates, but I believe the IJN is 10/month. Others can correct this. Bottom line is you will have pilots, but some of them will make Wrong Way Feldman look like an Ace.

Any idea on how many 'recruits' I get per months? Is there a limit?
What's the exp of the recruit? 40? 30?

The rate for normal pilots is 10 Navy and 20 Army

thats right (IJA 20 skilled pilots per month, IJN 10 skilled pilots per month).

when you drain your pool you will start to get unexperienced pilots. Their exp rating will be from approximatly 25-40, so you will need lot of careful managment for your airgroups (see: Mogami training metod).

As far as I know there is no limit for 'recruits'. But, without training they are usseles in combat, and even other missions (lots of ops loses)

Planes are not a problem for IJ player. Pilots are real problem.

You get as many recruits as you need. Their experience averages about half the experience level of trained pilots from the pool for the time period.

The actual formula for the untrained repaclement pilots is 1/2 of the trained pilot exp +- 9 points (random).

The pilots with the unit come back with the unit. No more, no less. Any additional pilots will not join the squadron until aircraft are recieved and made operational.

Not all destroyed aircraft mean a killed pilot with it too. Have to take into account ground losses and pilots that survive the destruction of their aircraft.

i know that there are messages like Lt. Jon Deo was shoot and was RESCUED! that come up sometimes. Does that mean that only those guys are rescued or a lot more ar juts the messages for all of them don't show up?

That depends on whether you have any trained pilots in your pool when the unit returns. If there are trained pilots in the pool when the unit returns, you'll get trained pilots. How likely is that though? If no trained pilots are available, you'll get untrained.
