Hudson with a torpedo?

Post by Grunty »

playing full campaign as allies, suddenly (in may 1942) a squdron of hudsons in Port Moresby changed their bombload for a 18inch-torpedo (even though says default load are bombs); funny thing is that for extended range it uses bombs (250 lbs); a bug (maybe they are so eager to upgrade to Beauforts they loaded torps on their own [:D]) or what?

Really...?

Do me a favor, and see if the other Hudson's now carry torpedos. I would think that all of the Sqdns would carry the same loadout, and therefore, all of them would now carry torps.

I actually don't care that much for the Beufort, because frankly, it's range sucks. I set most of my Hudson sqdns to "not upgrade", because carrying a several 250# bombs twice as far, is preferable to me. I convert a few of my sqdns to Beuforts, but the range on the Hudson is great asset.

Funny!
I've set my Beauforts to 'Do not upgrade' because the game has their upgrade, the Beaufighter, not carrying torpedoes at all.

Rest weird but that's right isn't it? Even if shoud carry a torp, on extended range it would carry bombs in a lighter load?

And sad about Beaufighters not carrying torps but heh I allow upgard 'cause their cool (and gun load out is pretty fierce too used on right mission)

sorry for taking me so long...

the funny thing is that only that squadron in Port Moresby carries torpedoes, I have some Hudsons in Darwin - Broome area and they act normally (the same thing - acting normally- was happening with Hudsons in Dacca region, but right now they are already upgraded)..

I'm doubtful the Hudson could accomodate a torpedo under any circumstances. The PV-1 Ventura was a much bigger and more powerful descendant of the Hudson and was tested carrying a torpedo but never actually carried one in combat. The bomb bay on the Ventura would not completely contain the torpedo.

Maybe it happened but I doubt anybody can find any documentation of even a test of torpedos on Hudsons. Be incredibly surprised if there was an operational use. I've been incredibly surprised in the past though.[;)]

I had one of the Hudson squadrons in Dacca that also used torpedoes. They were pretty efficient, almost like betties once they gained some experience.

About half of my Beauforts refuse to carry torpedos for some reason. The aircraft data screen shows bombs as the default load. I upgrade those to Beaufighters (they're great for skip bombing if they're experienced enough).
